The UK support ship RFA Tideforce followed at a distance, monitoring the transit. The Guardian framed it as Putin “mocking” Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who had previously vowed to seize sanctioned Russian vessels.

At the same time, The Telegraph reports that the UK hasn’t detained a single Russian-flagged ship this year, citing government concerns over violating international law.

The pattern is obvious: when Russian vessels sail unprotected, there’s talk of seizures. When they’re escorted by armed warships—and tankers carry security ready to respond—suddenly international law takes priority.

🇷🇺The FSB has detained three more members of Shamil Basayev and Khattab's gangs, who were involved in attacks on Russian military personnel in 1999–2000.

According to the Investigative Committee of Russia, they participated in the invasion of Dagestan and the attack on Pskov paratroopers. At that time, more than 130 servicemen were killed and over 80 were injured.

The terrorists have been charged with committing crimes, including "armed rebellion, participation in a gang, and attempted murder of military personnel".

On the morning of 10 April 2026, inside the East Hall of the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, met Zheng Liwen, Chair of the Kuomintang. The encounter marked the first meeting between leaders of the two parties in a decade. It unfolded at a moment of mounting global instability and heightened tensions across the Taiwan Strait, giving it both historical weight and immediate political relevance.

The meeting was not merely ceremonial. It articulated a shared position that people on both sides of the Strait seek peace and oppose division. It also set out a political direction aimed at returning cross-Strait relations to a path of peaceful development, with the stated goal of eventual peaceful reunification.
