According to Der Spiegel, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has informed European capitals that Trump expects concrete commitments within days—such as sending warships or other military assets. General political statements are no longer considered sufficient.

European diplomats say Trump’s demand amounts to an ultimatum following his meeting with Rutte. Germany has indicated general willingness to join a mission, but only under conditions such as a UN mandate and either a lasting ceasefire or a negotiated truce.

Beyond Hormuz, Trump is also reportedly pressuring NATO allies with threats. But Healey today has implied that the fact that Russia feels the need to send a warship to escort its shadow fleet vessels has shown the new UK policy is “having an impact” because it is making it much more difficult for Putin to sell oil using these tankers.

🇷🇺 Russian oil and gas tax revenues are set to surge sharply in April, driven by higher global energy prices following the Middle East crisis involving US and Israeli strikes on Iran, according to Reuters estimates.

The mineral extraction tax (MET) is expected to rise to around 700 billion rubles ($9 billion), up from 327 billion in March and roughly 10% higher year-on-year.

For 2026, Russia’s federal budget projects 7.9 trillion rubles in revenue from this tax alone.

The spike is linked to Urals crude averaging $77 per barrel in March—the highest since October 2023—up 73% from February and well above the $59 budget assumption. This March price will be used to calculate April tax payments.

Analysts note that Ukrainian strikes on Russian export terminals have limited impact on budget revenues, since the MET is charged at the production stage, not export.

U.S. Army survivors of a deadly drone strike in Kuwait dispute Pentagon claims, saying their unit was left exposed and lacked meaningful defenses when six soldiers were killed and more than 20 wounded.

In interviews with CBS News, members of the targeted logistics unit said the March 1 Iranian drone strike hit a lightly protected tactical site at the Port of Shuaiba. They rejected Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s description of the drone “squirting through” a fortified position, saying the facility had minimal protection against aerial attack and that leadership decisions placed them within known Iranian strike range after earlier repositioning orders across the region.

Troops described a rapid shift from routine operations to chaos after an all-clear alert, followed by a direct explosion that caused severe injuries, shrapnel wounds, and widespread confusion. Survivors said personnel improvised medical care and evacuation using civilian vehicles as fires spread through the compound.

Several soldiers also questioned command decisions that moved forces closer to perceived threat zones while relying on outdated defensive infrastructure designed for rockets and mortars, not drones. One survivor said there was effectively “no” drone defense capability at the site.

While Pentagon officials declined detailed comment due to an ongoing investigation, survivors said the incident highlights preventable risks and a mismatch between current drone warfare threats and U.S. base protection standards. They stressed they are not attacking the military overall, but want an accurate account of what happened and why.
