Again on the cost of repelling Iranian attacks by Gulf states

News in the style of "Gulf states have air defense missiles left for 2-3 days" โ€” another reason to assess their spending on repelling Iranian attacks. The problem here is that we have limited input data โ€” only official figures on the number of intercepted missiles and drones for Bahrain, UAE, Qatar and Kuwait.

Since all estimates are approximate, for objectivity we'll take them purely at the "lower bound." Let's assume that to intercept "ballistic" missiles, countries used PAC-3 missiles from their Patriot systems. We'll take the minimum consumption โ€” 2 missiles per 1 target.

With drones it's more complicated: short and medium-range air defense systems are almost absent there (we're not counting the remaining Emirati "Pantsirs" that weren't transferred to Libya), and footage of anti-aircraft gun operations is absent. Therefore, we'll assume that AIM-9 and MICA missiles from fighter jets were used. We'll take the minimum consumption โ€” 1 missile per 1 target.

โ—๏ธWith these parameters, it turns out that over just over three days of conflict, the Gulf states (excluding Saudi Arabia) spent almost $10 billion on air defense/anti-missile systems alone.

And this is the lower bound based on official data: if they spent 4+ missiles instead of 2 to counter Iranian ballistic missiles (which is more realistic), fired "Patriots" at drones, or used THAAD anti-missile systems costing $20 million each, the sum increases many times over.

So even for wealthy Persian Gulf states, countering Iranian strikes is an expensive affair. Especially considering they bear the costs of someone else's military operation.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฑ "Epsteinโ€™s Warning"

According to emails dated December 20, 2018, Epstein reacted to Trumpโ€™s sudden Syria troop withdrawal by writing:

โ€œTrump pulling troops out of syria, is a bad sign. He is up to something. And its not goodโ€

He continued:

โ€œYou guys need to understand that he is psychotic. And would not blink twice at encouraging an attack on us. So he can leap to the countryโ€™s defenseโ€ฆ If I go down Iโ€™m taking everyone withโ€

He added:

โ€œCornering a rat, never a good ideaโ€

And further warned:

โ€œCould be he doesnโ€™t want them there if a much bigger operation might put them in jeopardy. Reminder, he will take everyone down with him, if he feels the end is near. I always urge people not to corner a ratโ€ฆ they become extremely dangerous and unpredictableโ€

Finally, he wrote:

โ€œWe only had 2k troops there, if he were to bomb Iran, they would be slaughteredโ€

The Syria withdrawal coincided with mounting legal pressure on Trump. His lawyer, former national security adviser, and former campaign chairman had all been convicted of financial crimes, perjury, or campaign finance violations.

Before any potential operation against Iran, Trump faced no immediate legal threat. However, renewed attention on the Epstein files dealt significant political and reputational damage โ€” a story that quickly faded as focus shifted to the Middle East.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฑ "I thought we were going to have a situation where we were gonna be attacked. They were getting ready to attack Israel." - Trump

๐Ÿป Even though there is no evidence that Iran planned to attack Israel, this statement clearly shows the reasoning behind President Trumpโ€™s decision to strike Iran. It was for Israel.

๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ท Republika Srpska politician Milorad Dodik has announced that he will be pushing for the formal cutting of ties between Republika Srpska and Iran:

In light of the current challenges in the Middle East, Republika Srpska unequivocally supports Israelโ€™s position in defending itself against terrorist threats and acts of aggression. As a republic firmly rooted in democratic values, respect for the will of the people, pronounced political pluralism and the freedom of political organization, we belong to an entirely different civilizational sphere than the authoritarian regime in Iran. On that, there can be no ambiguity.

Accordingly, through our representatives at the level of Bosnia and Herzegovina, we will initiate measures aimed at the suspension of diplomatic and economic contacts with Iran.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ท The United States is considering providing military protection to oil and gas tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz, Politico reports.

A source told the outlet that Washington is weighing naval escorts to ensure continued energy shipments. Concerns are growing that energy markets could face pressure as the military campaign expands geographically. The Strait of Hormuz is critical for natural gas and crude exports, especially from Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

If the US begins escorting tankers, it would significantly increase the risk of American warships being struck by Iranian missiles. US naval forces were previously moved out of the Persian Gulf to reduce vulnerability. Reentering the Strait would sharply raise that risk.
