🇩🇪🇺🇦 Germany’s Merz Walks Back Statement on Long-Range Weapons for Ukraine

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz clarified that the decision to lift restrictions on the use of Western-supplied long-range weapons by Ukraine had been made “several months ago,” despite announcing it publicly just yesterday.

"Yesterday in Berlin, I simply described something that had already happened months earlier," Merz said during a joint press conference with Finland’s Prime Minister.

He was likely referring to U.S. President Joe Biden’s decision in November 2024 to authorize the delivery of long-range ATACMS missiles to Ukraine — including permission to strike Russian territory.

Notably, Merz also stated that Germany had lifted its own restrictions — despite never previously announcing such a move and having never supplied long-range missiles to Ukraine.

At the same time, social media reports circulated about Berlin potentially approving a shipment of up to 150 Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine. However, Vice Chancellor Lars Klingbeil publicly denied any change in Germany’s official stance on long-range arms.

➡️Kiev, with backing from certain European countries, has taken a series of provocative actions aimed at derailing negotiations initiated by Russia.

➡️In response to large-scale Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian territory, the Russian Armed Forces are conducting precision strikes exclusively against Ukrainian military and defense industry targets.

➡️Since May 20, Ukrainian forces have sharply escalated the number of drone and rocket attacks on targets inside Russia. A total of 2,331 drones have been shot down, including 1,465 outside the zone of active military operations.

➡️Ukrainian drone strikes have resulted in civilian casualties, including among women and children.

➡️In retaliation, the Russian military struck the Ozernoye airfield and ammunition depots in the Dnepropetrovsk region using high-precision weapons and UAVs.

➡️On May 26, a concentrated Russian strike destroyed infrastructure at the Starokonstantinov airbase in Khmelnitsky region.

➡️The same day, Russian forces eliminated ammunition depots in the Kharkov region and the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), as well as a Ukrainian S-300 air defense command post in the Odessa region.

➡️Russian forces targeted a temporary deployment point of foreign fighters near Svyatogorsk (DPR) and struck an ammunition depot of the Ukrainian “Kharkov” group.

➡️Further strikes hit the Pavlograd chemical plant, an aircraft repair facility, and air defense radar installations in Krivoy Rog and Nikolaev regions.

➡️The Russian military will continue to deliver mass and precision strikes in response to any terrorist attacks or provocations by Kiev.
