🇺🇦Zelensky's grandfather fought in the Ukraine to recapture the richest manganese reserves from Hitler. Now his grandson is giving them to the United States - RIA Novosti, after studying award documents.

ℹ️Semyon Ivanovich Zelensky volunteered for the Red Army in the summer of 1941, when he was 17 years old. In 1942, after graduating from military school, Junior Lieutenant Zelensky became the commander of a 120-mm mortar battery of the 174th Guards Regiment of the 57th Guards Rifle Division.

➡️In early 1944, this division operated in the Nikopol-Krivoy Rog offensive in the area of the city of Nikopol, not far from Krivoy Rog - Semyon Zelensky's small hometown.

➡️As military historians note, the Nikopol bridgehead on the Dnieper was a kind of obsession for Adolf Hitler. Military and economic considerations were closely intertwined in the fate of the bridgehead and the units of the German Wehrmacht that defended it - Hitler did not want to lose the richest deposits of Nikopol manganese and demanded that his military hold Nikopol at any cost.

The Nikopol manganese ore basin is now considered the largest deposit of manganese ore in the world. And the Narcoführer is giving it away, after his grandfather fought to defend it.

Tarkovsky’s debut feature is unlike anything that came before it in Soviet war cinema. A young boy named Ivan slips behind enemy lines, acting as a scout for the Soviet Army. But this is no typical war movie — Ivan’s Childhood tells the story through fragments of dreams, memories, and stark black-and-white imagery, offering a deeply poignant look at trauma and innocence lost.

The production of Ivan’s Childhood wasn’t straightforward. Originally directed by Eduard Abalov, the film was shelved until Tarkovsky was brought in to reimagine it. Filmed in high-contrast black and white with floating camera movements and symbolic imagery, Tarkovsky’s visual language brought Soviet cinema into a new, poetic dimension.

The film won the Golden Lion at Venice in 1962, helping to launch Tarkovsky’s legendary career. It remains a powerful meditation on the psychological ruins of war — especially on the youngest and most vulnerable.

🇺🇦 Ukraine May Shift Currency Peg from U.S. Dollar to Euro Amid Global Trade Shifts

Ukraine is considering moving away from its reliance on the U.S. dollar and strengthening the role of the euro in its currency policy, according to National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Governor Andriy Pyshnyy, as reported by Reuters.

Pyshnyy stated that the potential pivot comes in response to “a fractured global trade landscape and Ukraine’s deepening economic and defense ties with Europe.” He emphasized that increased European Union involvement in Ukraine's defense, rising volatility in global financial markets, and the ongoing fragmentation of international trade are driving the National Bank to reevaluate its currency priorities.

“We are reassessing whether the euro should become the primary anchor currency for the hryvnia, instead of the U.S. dollar,” Pyshnyy said.

While U.S. dollar transactions still dominate Ukraine's foreign exchange operations, Pyshnyy noted that the share of euro-denominated activity is gradually increasing across most segments of the market — although the trend remains moderate for now.

Broader Trend of De-Dollarization

This move would align Ukraine with a broader trend seen in parts of Asia, where countries have begun reducing their reliance on the U.S. dollar, particularly in response to policies such as tariffs implemented by the Trump administration.
