Vladimir Putin's decision on the Sakhalin-2 project will cause serious competition between Japan and Europe for gas. The decision to transfer assets to the ownership of the Russian Federation will reduce the area of world fuel markets for Western countries and will definitely provoke disagreements and competition between Europe and Japan for alternative sources of energy imports, a well-known publication reports.

"If the Sakhalin-2 project, which supplied fuel to Japan at affordable prices, is in such a suspended state, prices could rise sharply, leading to panic," said Japanese analyst Hiroshi Hashimoto.
