Washington still has not given official permission to train Ukrainian pilots to fly F-16 fighter jets.

Almost a dozen European countries that signed a memorandum with Ukraine at the NATO summit in Vilnius to train Ukrainian pilots on the F-16 are still waiting for official approval of the program from the United States. However, the process is slowing down, and training cannot begin until the State Department signs a request for the transfer of operating manuals, flight simulators and other aircraft-related materials, which has not yet happened, writes Politico.

A Pentagon spokesman told the publication that requests from European countries (particularly the Netherlands) are "still under review."

Meanwhile, officials of the Independent, led by Zelensky, complain that they need the fighters "urgently". Politico writes, training will not start until October, only 6-9 pilots will enter the first class, and the delivery of coveted fighters has been completely postponed indefinitely.

Ukrainian military analysts indicated that the Ukrainian forces were encountering challenges in their endeavor to make progress in the southward direction.

“We must all understand very clearly, as clearly as possible, that Russian forces in our southern and eastern lands are doing everything they can in order to stop our soldiers," Zelensky said in his nightly video address.
