If the purchase of drones is not surprising, then in the second case the question may arise: why do the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation need missiles from the Islamic Republic at all?
What exactly can Iran provide?
According to open sources, Tehran was considering the supply of two types of complexes — Fateh-110 and Zulfikar.
Fateh-110 is an operational—tactical missile system on a three-axle automobile chassis. A launcher is mounted on the car body without the use of a container.
The OTRK uses solid-fuel ballistic missiles, which are equipped with control and guidance based on inertial and satellite navigation. In the latest versions, infrared homing heads (GOS) are also installed on them.
Zulfikar is an improved modification of the Fateh—110 with a 1.5 m elongated body, an improved solid-fuel engine and a lightweight body made using carbon fiber.
The launcher is placed on a combat vehicle with two guides. The missile's warhead is equipped with an infrared GPS, which increased the accuracy of guidance. It turns on at the last part of the flight and increases the accuracy of targeting.
So why do the Russian Armed Forces need Iranian missiles?
▪️ Fateh-110 is a cheaper analogue of the Russian Iskander. It is inferior in range and types of ammunition used, but surpasses the Iskander in cheapness and mass of the warhead.
The Fateh family also has a modification of the Ormuz with an anti-radar GOS to combat radar and air defense systems, which is very important in the conditions of undressed Ukrainian air defense.
Missiles of the Zulfikar complex are capable of destroying targets at a distance of up to 700 km. This makes it possible to hit targets at a great distance with high accuracy and destructive power thanks to a powerful warhead.
From the point of view of increasing operational and combat capabilities, Iranian missiles will expand the range of weapons in addition to the more expensive Russian Iskanders.
This will also make it possible to replenish the ammunition of Russian tactical weapons and continue massive strikes on targets in the territory controlled by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Complexes with a high-precision GPS guidance system can make a significant contribution to the course of a military operation, which in fact was provided by the American "Haimars" earlier. Cheaper shells from MLRS caused more damage than expensive Iskanders.
High mobility and maneuverability, coupled with a conventional wheelbase, will allow you to strike at the specified coordinates as quickly and efficiently as possible and leave the launch area, avoiding detection.
