Worst type of result this for the bigger picture, we will get a report saying theyโre happy with the game and it gives him more time even though weโve won by the skin of our teeth, I donโt see progression.
Although a bit of momentum going into Dortmund. What we needed

๐ซ๐ท Benoit Badiashile made more successful ball recoveries (13) than any other player for either Chelsea or Leeds United. This man is too calm.
Iโve never ever seen Badiashile have an average game not to talk of a bad game. Heโs a sensational signing and deserves a lot of praise man

The Report_ ChelseaLeeds
To majority of Chelsea fans. This is a sad evening today ๐ inspite of the win. Reasons we all know. But for todays game, here is the pick
โข There is no question. the players fought for the manager. This can never be about sabotage. He is a mr nice guy and it seems like the players love him. This tells you a lot about their belief in either his personality or coaching prowess. They are yet to give up on him. For majority of the fans, ๐ this is super confusing.
โข Most parts of the first half we played a little bit better.. but questions will be raised on the second half display where whe we were hurried along like a small team. While its understandable the substitutions were to bring stability and try to ensure a win, its still shocking on how low we have stooped for such approaches especially against a small team like Leeds. At times in the game, you could feel that we were heavily riding on luck.
โข Potter can build on this though lots of work needs to put in especially on the tactical side of the game. How we control games and how we manage opponents press and pressure. Defensively, we were almost solid. What needs serious work is still the attacking patterns. Apart from individual brilliance and movements upfront, we are zero as a team. On Havertz I think I have said enough and its now down to potter to decide whether his coaching head will be fried in oil or just to be boiled.
โข Potter might have saved his ass for now. But pressure at chelsea is never far away. While I feel he may get away with Champions league elimination, Loss against fellow struggling friends Leicester and Everton could still get his head back between the hammer and the gravel. With how we currently play, Aston Villa, Liverpool, Wolves and Brighton next are almost unwinnable... it will take Todd real Potter witchcraft to believe if we crumble against the two.

โข Often overlooked & always solid, he's one of our most versatile players we have.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek didn't set the world on fire with his performance at RWB, but did what was necessary to mitigate threats & contribute going forward. #CFC

The 3-4-3/3-5-2 Comeback
This system used to be exciting to watch under Conte and also during the initial stages of the Tuchel era. It also served Potter well during both his Brighton and Osternd reigns. On saturday after more than 2months of trial and failures with back four, it seems like Potter is shifting back to his tried and tested. There is nothing wrong with this system in terms of making it exciting. It's just the application and personnel that matters.
Can it Work now with new signings? Can it be better?
Before new signings, we used to struggle on the right whenever Reece was injured.. Deep midfield was also a slight issue. But the biggest challenge was in the 2supporting strikers behind the main Man where sterling and Mount technical inefficiencies were catastrophic. We also had issues with LCB where we gambled plenty of times with Cucurella
Its clear Chelsea is more dangerous with Reece as a flying wingback rather than as Fullback. Resumption of back three could favour James. Badiashille will also address the LCB role adequately and Koulibaly has shown glimpses of what defined him at Napoli. The Central Midfield area has been strengthened by arrival of Enzo. Kante and Zakaria comeback will only make this area stronger.
What was required and what we lacked with the supporting strikers was the ability to move through closed spaces in attack. Joao was born for this and a certain upgrade of what we had before. Infact a player with holding abilities like Joao there would allow deployment of Sterling who is more direct to flourish alongside him. He can also play as the other striker in 3-5-2 therefore allowing deploying Mount in a midfield three providing both stability and efficiency.
The challenge with reverting to this shape however will be deployment of both Mudryk and Noni. These two would struggle as supporting strikers because of their Style of play. Unless Potter deploys 3-5-2 with them as wingers, there is no way on earth they will be efficient behind the main striker. Playing them as wingers will however demand deployment of solid 3 midfielders with serious workrate and defensive attributes. Otherwise it would leave the team so exposed defensively
While most fans had desired change of shape, For now what matters to potter is what would give him stability and results. By reverting to a back three, Potter has a great chance of attaining just that. Could have done the same and bet my ass on it if I was him too
