π¨ βIβve worked out that signing Enzo FernΓ‘ndez over a 8 and a half year contract for β¬120m costs broadly Β£12.3m a year, if Chelsea waited till the summer and signed a β¬80m midfielder on a 5 year contract that works out at Β£14.1m a yearβ
βThe flip side is Enzo will be on their books for a long time and theyβre making bets on these players to not underperformβ

Want to make clear this is *extremely basic* laymanβs amortisation maths that football finance experts would probably scoff at (and doesnβt factor in player wages), but it does give a broad idea of the accounting benefit of these ultra-long contracts

Enzo FernΓ‘ndez fit at Chelsea: βOften played as a left sided defensive midfielder in a 4-2-3-1, dictating the play and was often the start of Benficaβs attacksβ

"This is La T y La M for Enzo.
From Argentina to England, with the smile of someone that won the third title, a world champion, you already know who it is:
Enzo Fernandez, he's off to London"

Once Fernandez had finished his game with River, La Recova would be tipped off & as parents Raul & Marta drove Enzo across the city, someone would flick a switch to turn out the floodlights to delay kick-off until their boy wonder had arrived.

Enzo FernΓ‘ndez served his suspension in the Champions League on the final group game so isnβt at risk of missing either the 1st or 2nd leg. He has 3 yellows in 5 UCL matches.

Bottom Line- Us against the World
When Roman took over chelsea in 2003, he precedented over a culture of spending to buy talent like non that had ever been witnessed in the English Premier League.
The backlash that followed was outrageous bordering both cynicism and envy. "Dirty Oil Money", they called it. "buying success" others said..... but the tittle that followed thereafter prompted the pessmists to spend their money too. Not because they liked it, but because it was a choice between remaining competitive or go into oblivion.
But the greatest factor for success during that period was Jose Mourinho fostering the "us against the world" mentality and environment. The players believed, The fans believed and the owner believed and the end result was a serial winning machine cultivated from seeds of hate.
It'd be stupid to imagine that everyone would be happy of your success.
This time we are not different.
We will ride the wave.
