Adapt or Perish- Connor Gallagher

What has surfaced recently are rumours of teams interested in acquiring the services of Connor Galagher. Crystal, Everton, etc. ... but its also been stated that the kids heart is set on seeing his journey at chelsea succeed. Well..... Unless he adapts, its NEVER going to happen.

He only needs to look at the type of attacking midfield acquisations chelsea is currently making. Young, Athletic, determined, fast, intelligent and with technical flair.

While he can boast all the others, question mark is raised on his attacking intelligence while lack of technical flair is a curse he will always live with.

Water is still to be spilt however To live his dream of playing for chelsea, he must adapt his game to his strength.

In a previous article of FireSide, we pin pointed his strength in marking, Tackling, ball holding, Aggression and workrate that were almost similar to Kante. If he can forego his obsession of trying to be an attacking midfielder, he can Cultivate his game to his basic strength and allow the attacking side of his game be his secondary role. This would even make him a more complete midfielder than what he is now and a certain happy ending to his Chelsea dream.

In the next two years, after Kovacic, Kante and Jorginho exit, even with acquisation of Rice or Enzo, its clear that Central Midfield will be an area that he can succeed in. The mountain to climb in this area vis a vis his current strengths is way lighter than the other end of the field.

He is fast, He is aggressive, He gets into tackles, he has work rate and he can hold and distribute. He only needs to work on his Timing, Positioning and Composure. Very minimal and achievable.

Reece was once a striker but has settled in his current position based on his primary strength. Hall is currently perfecting his role on the left albeit with mistakes. Gareth Bale Wasted a number of his years as a Leftback at Southampton before shifting positions when he moved to tottenham.

In his current position, Andre Pirlo and Paul Scholes all started their professional football as attacking midfielders before going deeper into midfield. For years they were able to dictate games from deep without loosing the attacking threat whenever they joined into attack.

Its never too late to adapt. Especially when most of your attributes Support your potential new role. The line between succeeding and failing is as thin as paper. For Connor, he will have to adapt or perish.

Madueke and Mudryk, we finally have some proper high-class dribblers in wide areas.

It has been almost 3 years (19/20 Pulisic) since we had someone who was quick and good in 1v1 situations. Great moves.

We had several factors affecting our offensive play and I'd say the lack of dribblers was perhaps the 3rd biggest. Good to see that being addressed.

The 2 bigger issues - lack of midfield progressors and final-third "glue" players who can sustain pressure.

"That takes Chelsea's spending in this window to Β£190m."

Adding that to the Β£270m they spend in the summer that takes their spending this season to Β£460m since Todd Boehly took charge πŸ’ΈπŸ’Έ
