7 - Kepa Arrizabalaga made seven saves while keeping a clean sheet against Aston Villa, his most saves without conceding in his top-flight league career. The Spaniard was expected to concede at least two goals based on the placement of the on-target shots he faced. Rejuvenated.

People should not make any mistake. Aston Villa is a strong team and their home ground one of the most difficult to play in. ManCity with their blazing Monk only managed a 1-1 draw here and for us to win by two and keep a clean sheet is not by any chance an average achievement.
Day in day out, potter ball becomes clear and clear. His experiments also offering him lessons that I hope will sustain chelsea growth.
And lessons from that game?
β’ Kepa is going to the worldcup. Could be undisputed number one. A proof how a change of coach can be both miraculous and disastrous. But the man who used to be so timid coming out for the crosses and corners has become a lion.
β’ Togetherness breeds familiarity.. 1st half midfield pairing was in tatters but the second half was a dispaly of synchronised play. The Pot experiment in the first half backfired. But the understanding and game controlling resulting from the subs in the second half was brilliant.
β’ Potter learns fast and adapts. He is not stubborn and appreciates mistakes and rectifys.
β’ When facing a strong team, You'd rather have a stable old man Azpi as a wingback in an adopted defensive shape rather than RLC who is made for the midfield. It gives you solidity at the back and release the attacking play and cutting over reliance on one wing for attack. As long as you limit Azpi attacking contribution to protect exposure of his dropping pace, you will gain from his defensive skills and experience. Mistake is wanting him to be Reece with his age.
β’ Sterling struggles will continue unless Potter changes his role.
β’ Havertz is havertz. And we will say no more than what we have always said.. My extreme current thoughts on him would provoke a melt down here. It just involves selling people.

Kepa Arrizabalaga:
"Iβm really happy because of the win and because I helped the team. Itβs a really tough stadium to play. We started the game very well, we controlled, we scored first, but after scoring we dropped a little bit our performance with the ball."
"We lost the control and we struggled in the last 20, 25 minutes of the first half. In half-time we changed a little bit and in the second half we managed the game much better. After a big win away in the #UCL, itβs not easy coming again to the Premier League, be focused, go away, travel."
"We are winning at big stadiums. Winning here is not easy, winning in Milan is not easy. We are getting the managerβs ideas better and better."

"We work on these types of things during the week [reaction speed and instincts], but then in the game itβs completely different. You have no time to think. You have to be ready because anything can happen."
"Iβm feeling very well, with confidence, with and without the ball. Self-confidence and belief in your work, in what youβre doing, and belief in the process is very important."
"Of course I had really tough moments. I had really good moments, but in the end itβs like life. You have ups and downs and you have to be strong mentally, sticking with your ideas and keeping working. Now I am enjoying all the work."

Loftus-Cheek has evolved really nicely over the past 12 months. Has gone from a dribble-first midfielder to an efficient mover of the ball, which is ironically giving him more space to run into.
Tuchel and Potter are leveraging his passing in a way no manager has before.

This is a really tough run if you look closely. Iβve been really impressed with us & Potter so far, but letβs not get carried away.
This is the real test, especially with Reece James now injured. Letβs see if we can live up to it.This squad still has real holes in it, that Iβm scared are going to get found out.
The dream is that we somehow continue this run of form until January & then patch the holes up ASAP.

If we get Leao, that automatically confirms Pulisic will leave Chelsea next season except he'll be ready to play on the right flank while Ziyech surely leaves.
Odoi too might end up switching to the right or perhaps go on another loan
Leao and Sterling will definitely compete for LW

Chelsea vs Aston Villa Tactical Analysis
[ Credits CFCCentral3 via Twitter ]
Building up vs a narrow setup: Chelsea have struggled previously against sides that clogged the center and denied passing lanes to their midfield pivots, particularly Jorginho. Earlier in the season, Leeds found great success by restricting supply to the central mids, restricting all 3 (Mount, Jorginho, Gallagher) to less than 25 completed passes each. Villa set up in a narrow 4-3-3, looking to deny central access. One of Brighton's key strengths under Potter was the variety in their build up - they could progress centrally or wide, play short or go long.

This was not, by any means, a good performance. Villa accumulated 1.7 xG to our 1.0. They had 23 touches in our pen. area, almost twice as many (12) as we had in theirs. Without Kepa's heroics, we would have left with our first loss under Potter. However, everything illustrated above are small steps towards developing an identity. The side's willingness to adapt from game to game, despite dealing with multiple key absentees & a hectic calendar will see us stumble here and there, but steady progress made is encouraging for the short, medium & long term.
