How many managers have actually outsmarted Maresca tactically since he joined Chelsea?
Maybe just a few. One example could be the away game against Manchester City โ we even took the lead but ended up losing by halftime. Kompany at Bayern, maybe? But even then, it felt like our own mistakes cost us, not that we were outplayed. We started well in some games but didnโt take our chances.
Most of the other heavy defeats were due to red cards or our own errors.
If you gave Maresca top-quality players, I donโt think many managers could outclass him tactically. Heโs always trying new tactics, and if something doesnโt work, he quickly changes it. Heโs also proactive and constantly looking to improve the team. In my opinion, injuries and the fact that heโs working with a very young squad have slowed him down โ but he clearly has a brilliant football mind.
