Palmer's stats when played as a right winger vs. as an attacking midfielder look similar until you put them into context.

7 out of the 13 goals Palmer scored on the right wing were penalties, so that's 5 non-penalty goals and 5 assists in 20 games.

As an attacking midfielder, only 1 out of his 13 goals was a penalty (one against Everton at home), so that's 12 non-penalty goals and 7 assists in 19 games.

It's obvious which position he excels in, and playing Madueke or Neto on the right would fit Maresca's system better anyway.

Palmer's situation is identical to Foden's. Foden, playing as a right winger, produced 5 goals and 4 assists in 21 games. As an attacking midfielder, he got 13 goals and 4 assists in 15 games. Just like Palmer, he had the same number of assists with a drastic increase in goals, which is why Pep is moving him centrally this year. It's clear Palmer is best centrally, and in my opinion, it's not worth shifting him to the right to accommodate Nkunku centrally.
