🤝 “It was an intense competitive game, for sure. We wanted to win and to lose is not something we like, but it’s a pre-season game and we have missed a few chances.

“In the first half, it was very competitive, really even, and in the second half we were close to scoring that [winning goal]. But it was a good pre-season game, great crowd and atmosphere, and we were unlucky to concede that late goal to lose.

“In any game you think you can do better, but it is part of the process: to learn the things we can do better, the things we have done well, and the place we are now.

“It’s normal we have these moments. But the result is not the most important thing now; it’s the performance, it’s 75 minutes for many players, which was the plan and we respect that.”

🔝 𝐎𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐚:

“We need to go assessing almost day by day, but there was no point of taking risks today.”

 𝐎𝐅𝐅𝐈𝐂𝐈𝐀𝐋: Danny Welbeck has joined Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion on a contract until June 2028. 🤝

🗣️ On joining Chelsea, Welbeck said:

“When you hear of the interest from Chelsea, it's something that fills you with such immense pride.

“Knowing the history of Chelsea, it's a club that wants to win trophies and is pushing to do that every single season.

“I’m really honoured to come to a club of this stature at what feels like a really exciting time. I know a few of the boys already and I’ve had fantastic conversations with the manager and already feel that connection.

“I’ve got that fire in my belly and I'm ready to give it everything for this club to make everyone at Chelsea, and the supporters, proud.”

Welbeck arrives at Stamford Bridge with a wealth of top-level experience. He has made 400 appearances in the Premier League, has played in the UEFA Champions League, and has represented England at two FIFA World Cups.

He began his career with @ManchesterUnited and established himself as a key figure under Sir Alex Ferguson, winning the Premier League, twice lifting the League Cup and Community Shield, and claiming the 2008 FIFA Club World Cup.

The 35-year-old moved to @Arsenal_london in September 2014 and spent five seasons with the north London side. He scored 32 goals in 126 outings and won the FA Cup and Community Shield with the Gunners before moving onto Watford and then Brighton.

Welbeck made more than 200 appearances for the Seagulls and remained a consistent Premier League goalscorer, with 26 goals struck in the top-flight over the past two seasons.

The striker, who has been capped 42 times by England netting 16 times, will join up with Xabi Alonso’s squad during the pre-season tour.
