🗣️ Interim coach Calum McFarlane on Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat against Fulham [A] in the Premier League:

🤝 “I’m really proud of the performance but we have to talk about it in different ways.

“I thought Fulham started better, won more duels and second balls. We were too aggressive on the ball in the first 10 minutes., but then I thought we found our rhythm and we got into some good areas, even though they gave us a lot of respect in terms of their defensive structure in the 5-4-1.

“We had just got into our rhythm, had a couple of set-pieces, but we got countered and went down to 10 men. Then it’s about how compact we are, how we control our box and our final third. We did that really well until they scored the first goal.

“We had moments and I was really proud of the character to get back in the game. We didn’t look like conceding again until a bit of quality from Harry Wilson that decided the game. So we’re disappointed.”

📈 On Liam Delap getting off the mark for Chelsea in the Premier League, who also completed 90 minutes for the first time since February 2025:

“They were tough circumstances tonight for Liam, being the single nine while we’re down to 10 men, but you saw him fight, bully, control centre-backs and get us up the pitch.

“He had a big chance that he’ll be disappointed to miss after great link-up play between him and Cole [Palmer], but I’m delighted he got his goal. He deserves that, will take confidence from that, and hopefully his performances will remain at this level.”

🤔 On whether there is a discipline problem at the club after yet another red card:

“I don’t think this red card is ill-disciplined. This happens in football. You get caught one-v-one and Marc [Cucurella] is one of the best defenders in the world. So, he would defend that situation nine times out of 10.

“The three yellow cards directly after is something we’ll have to look at, but I would argue that we don’t want that to happen, obviously. I would then argue that they showed discipline to not get another yellow card in a tough game with 10 men. So, you can look at it either way.”

🚨 Calum McFarlane is joining Liam Rosenior’s first-team coaching staff rather than going back to managing the U21s.

Rosenior has personally asked McFarlane to become one of his assistants, after being impressed with how he managed the senior squad over the last week as caretaker. They will now begin working together, with Rosenior’s first training session scheduled this afternoon. McFarlane’s promotion may have taken him by surprise.

Harry Hudson will be promoted to take over Chelsea’s Under 21s side moving forward.

Chelsea are set to appoint Dan Hogan as the new Under-18s head coach.

Hogan was appointed as Chelsea Under-16 lead coach in the summer and was most recently a part of the emergency men's first-team coaching staff, as pictured in the middle.

It’s understood current boss, Hassan Sulaiman, will no longer lead the 18s, and will soon work with the loan group.
