STARTING XI:

Jörgensen - 8.5: Multiple saves when called upon on chances from inside the box. Good distribution as well.

Gusto - 6.5: Was caught out defensively multiple times early on after diving in or being unaware of runners in behind. Was vital in possession to allow Enzo to push forward. Good assist for Sancho.

Disasi - 7: Great finish on the corner to open the scoring. Had a very impressive block early on to cover for Gusto but defence was disorganized in transition.

Tosin - 6: Unlucky to hit the woodwork twice. Poorly positioned on the opener, losing his marker. The backline’s organization looked shaky, especially before the red card.

Cucurella - 7.5: Consistent energy while pressing. Not asked to do much defensively after. Cross to Madueke should have ended up as an assist.

Fernandez - 8.5: Great delivery on the corner to assist the opener. Thriving in his new advanced midfielder role, transitioning defence into attack expertly. Created multiple chances with incisive passing. Needs to improve defensively.

Caicedo - 8.5: Balances the midfield and defense with consistent defensive effort. Passing range is excellent, never losing the ball in transition.

Madueke - 9.5 [MOTM]: The main man for Chelsea today. Demonstrated excellent dribbling to create space and played multiple dangerous crosses which should have ended in goals. A well taken finish and an assist to boot. Only mark against him is that he could have scored more.

Palmer - 9: Excellent again. Brilliant at finding space in pockets between the back line and midfield. Demonstrated excellent vision creating many opportunities for others. Tapped home an easy finish to score.

Félix - 7.5: Silky dribbling when on the ball. Created multiple important chances, including an assist for Madueke. Needs to be more clinical with chances.

Nkunku - 7.5: Expertly timed run to create Palmer goal. Scored on the empty goal calmly. Must demonstrate more energy throughout the game and get on the ball more often.

SUBSTITUTES:

Sancho - 8: Great finish for the fifth goal.

Veiga - N/A

Dewsbury-Hall - N/A

Some really beautiful words from Enzo last night! 👇

Enzo Maresca on his Chelsea chant:

“It was a very good feeling. You can see they are happy, that is our target, we work every day to keep them happy. Tonight was a very good feeling. They can see Chelsea is back and this is an important thing.”

Enzo Maresca:

“I am very happy with the five we scored. I’m not happy with the first 20 minutes where we struggled. We prepared to press them man-to-man and we did not do that. After 15 or 20 minutes, we adjusted that and the game was much better.”

Enzo Maresca on Chelsea being top scorers in the Premier League:

“We said, if you remember the beginning of the season, the two wingers, attacking midfielders and the No.9 are in charge of the goals.”

Enzo Maresca:

“We are very happy but Cole, Joao, they are players that can see different things that the others are not able to see. It doesn’t mean the rest are not good.”

Enzo Maresca on whether Filip Jorgensen will keep his place against Spurs:

“We will play [Robert] Sanchez and 10 players. That is the only thing for sure.”

Enzo Maresca on Noni Madueke:

“There are players behind that are ready. We have four wingers that are very good. In the moment that one of them drops for whatever reason, there is one ready.”
(BobbyVincent)

Thank you for everything so far maresca 💙

Moisés Caicedo on early struggle at Chelsea:

“A lot of things that cost me because I had the pressure of being the new N’Golo Kanté.

That affected me a lot, but when I put that behind me, I started to focus only on helping my team and proving that I am worth what they paid for my transfer.”

Maresca: “You need to build something important like togetherness, the ones that don’t believe in that, then they have to be out” (SkySports)

Enzo Maresca on Moises Caicedo:

“For sure he’s one of the best [midfielders in the league] but he has things he can do better and improve like the rest. With us he’s doing fantastic on and off the ball, working hard. We are very happy with him.”

Enzo Maresca:

“I’m not surprised because I know Moi from Brighton, from years ago. I know how good he is. ”

Enzo Maresca:

“My goal [for the season], people struggle to believe. It is today to think about tomorrow, how can I improve the players in the session? Improving players helps you improve the team. When will we be there [competing]? No idea.”
(SkySports)

Low key we are already competing, love how Enzo is downplaying our readiness in the media. Just need Liverpool to slip, then it will be clear to all

Enzo Maresca's pre @Tottenhm press conference

Enzo Maresca on Chelsea team news:

“Both [James and Fofana] are slowly getting better but as we said the other day it’s a matter of weeks. They are still far. The only one still ill is Misha Mudryk. The rest are okay.”

Enzo Maresca:

“We are very happy for the fans. They deserve to live this moment. They can dream, we are very happy. We work every day to make them happy and proud of the players.”

Enzo Maresca:

“There’s nothing to add, I said I don’t think we are there and ready to compete with Arsenal, Liverpool and City. We have to do many more things good, not just score goals. Avoid to concede.”

Enzo Maresca:

“Defensively we are doing well but we are just focused on Sunday and then the next one. We are not thinking about April, May or June. It’s too early. Things can change quick in football. The focus is Sunday, today’s session and tomorrow’s session.”

Enzo Maresca on Club World Cup:

“I said, not only me, but we said there are so many games. We will see when we are close to May, June or July and from there we will prepare for that competition.”

Enzo Maresca on Ange Postecoglou being booed by Spurs fans:

“It’s nothing new. It depends on their results and situation. Is it fair or unfair? It’s our job.”

Enzo Maresca on Spurs’ injury crisis in defence:

“We try always to exploit, no matter the other team or their defenders. I think Romero can be back, probably the solution from them. We will see.”

Maresca on Noni:

“Off the ball when we ask him to defend and press he’s doing very well. The only reason I said this the other day is because I want the best from Noni and to get the best you have to push him. If he relaxes a little bit, it’s wrong.”

Enzo Maresca on Noni Madueke criticism:

“Overall he’s working well since we start. Sometimes he drops a little bit. He’s not allowed to drop. In terms of numbers, he’s doing fantastic with goals and assists.”

Enzo Maresca:

“Since we started we tried to change players. We did the same against Southampton. Changing seven in the Premier League is a big number but they all deserved minutes. The good thing is that, no matter how many we change, you can see the identity of the team.”

Enzo Maresca on his managerial style:

“I try to be, not a friend, but close to the players. Sometimes between friends, when you say something wrong to your friend he’s not happy. He has to know that what you say is because you want to take care of him.”

Enzo Maresca:

“ The same happened with Reece when I spoke about leadership, it’s because I wanted the best for Reece and for him to improve. For Noni, this is not different.”

Enzo Maresca on if he is expecting a lot of goals on Sunday:

“Hopefully for us.”

Enzo Maresca on Spurs:

“They are, first of all, have good players and manager. It’s very clear what they want to do on and off the ball. What kind of problems they have, I don’t know. You have to be there to understand. A fantastic team, they beat City 4-0 two weeks ago.”

Enzo Maresca on Moises Caicedo inverting from RB:

“It is something that was in our minds since day one but because of the Romeo injury and the Enzo moment, we used Moi as a holding midfielder. We used him right-back last game and in the future we can expect to see him there. For sure, it could be an option.”

Enzo Maresca on Enzo Fernandez:

“He’s improving a lot in terms of understanding the game and the position. Now he’s arriving in the box. This is what we need from the attacking players. He has many things he can do better, all the squad do. He’s in the right way.”

Enzo Maresca:

“We take every game as a reference [for progress]. Our reference is just day by day, the training sessions. We can see clearly the players are on board, happy and enjoying the moment and way we want to play. Every game is a test.”

Enzo Maresca on differences between jobs at Chelsea and Leicester:

“I took exactly the same way - focus on the squad, these players, how we can help them and improve the team. The same way I took Leicester was exactly the same way. Focus on improving the players and the team.”

Enzo Maresca on why he is succeeding where Graham Potter, Frank Lampard and Mauricio Pochettino failed at Chelsea:

“I try to spend hours to understand how I can help the players.”

Enzo Maresca on pre-season tour plans with Club World Cup next summer:

“We have some day off in case we play the final but I don’t know.”

Enzo Maresca:

“Even the Italian guy [journalist] who is welcoming me [saying Ciao] is asking about the title race!.”

Enzo Maresca:

“In terms of points and how we want to play on and off the ball, I was convinced we’d reach that moment but not so early. We can do many things better in both situations - attacking and defending. We are ahead of my expectations.”

Enzo Maresca: “I was upset in the first 15 or 20 minutes [against Southampton] because we were wrong in the way we were pressing.

I called some players to the bench, we needed to change. If you don’t press Southampton man-to-man, we struggle to recover the ball.”

🗣️ Enzo Maresca: "The only focus is improving players and the team, no more than that.

I spend many hours understanding how I can help the players improve and to convince them. Today, we just finished the session and the last half-hour was just an extra session for some of the players to try to improve them.

We watch games, review games, look at how they can improve. I have four or five assistant coaches upstairs that spend time looking at the small details about position, control with the right foot, control with the left, play with the right, play with the left. These kinds of things."
