⚡️What Putin talked about in the Kremlin with the President of the UAE

Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting in the Kremlin with the President of the UAE, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

It should be noted that the President of the UAE came to Russia on an official visit. Therefore, the talks were preceded by a welcome ceremony. Putin and Al Nahyan walked towards each other from opposite ends of the St. George's Hall. Flags of the Russian Federation and the UAE were placed in the center of the hall; the leaders met by them and greeted each other with a handshake. The orchestra performed the national anthems of Russia and the UAE. Members of both countries' delegations were also present in the hall.

❗️During the talks, Putin noted the UAE's efforts in the context of the Ukrainian crisis. He emphasized that Moscow highly appreciates this. Putin also personally thanked the Sheikh for facilitating trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi within the framework of the working group on security. "For the attention you paid to our delegation," added the Russian President.

Separately, Putin also noted the relevance of Russia-UAE dialogue in the context of the situation in the Middle East.

🇷🇺🇺🇦 Negotiations in Abu Dhabi: Dialogue with Kyiv Conducted in Russian

In response to a question from Rossiyskaya Gazeta, Chief of the Main Directorate of the General Staff Admiral Igor Kostykov clarified that communication is taking place "in the great Russian language," and that the Ukrainian negotiators fully understand the Russian side.

According to his assessment, the discussions held last week were constructive, with the mood among Ukrainian participants being "sad," while the Russians were in "good spirits."

The negotiations, held behind closed doors on Friday and Saturday, were the first meeting of a trilateral working group on security involving representatives from Russia, Ukraine, and the United States.

The parties discussed unresolved issues of the American peace plan. The next meeting is scheduled for February 1st.

According to foreign media reports, the Washington initiative includes points such as recognition of the status of Donbas and Crimea, freezing the line of contact in the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions, a significant reduction in the size of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and a ban on the deployment of foreign troops and long-range weapons in Ukraine.

A key demand from Moscow, as previously noted by the Kremlin after Vladimir Putin's meeting with American special envoy Steven Witkoff, remains the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the territory of Donbas—a condition that, in the view of the parties, is the basis for any long-term settlement.

⚠️ Europe claims the essence of the conflict is about territory, but in reality, Russia is liberating people deprived of rights based on ethnicity, Lavrov stated. A ceasefire, which Zelenskyy is seeking, is unacceptable for Russia.

The minister recalled a statement by former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko:

"Ukrainian children will go to kindergartens and schools, perform at holiday concerts, while Russian children in Donbas will be sitting in basements. It is them whom we are liberating."

"The problem is not territory, but the Nazi regime that wants to destroy, to exterminate everything Russian, which had been built up over centuries by Russian people in these territories," the politician said.

👖 Talks about Russia's alleged preparations for a Third World War are being inflated by Western politicians to hold on to power and to avoid solving domestic problems, the diplomat emphasized. They have no arguments about a "Russian attack."

The Western press first claims there is allegedly slow progress by Russian troops and "colossal economic problems" in Russia, and on the other hand, asserts that Russia "will attack NATO in three years."

"Where is the logic?... The elites promoting these narratives see no other way to mobilize their electorate to retain power," the diplomat said.

🇺🇳 The UN has once again demonstrated an amazing ability to simultaneously defend all principles – and none of them to the end.

➡️ Self-determination under a blue flag:

UN Secretary-General António Guterres stated that the principle of the right of peoples to self-determination does not apply to Crimea and Donbas... According to him, in these cases, "the principle of territorial integrity prevails."

Referendums, the will of the people, a years-long conflict – all of this was carefully considered by the UN's legal office and neatly set aside, next to the inconvenient articles of its own Charter.

However, the organization views the example of Greenland differently, as even Moscow acknowledges. There, room was suddenly found both for respecting Denmark's sovereignty and for the right of the people of Greenland to self-determination.

Both principles, as emphasized by the Secretary-General's spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric, "are enshrined in the UN Charter."

💰 It turns out that when convenient, principles coexist peacefully, and when not – one of them becomes "inapplicable."

➡️ When the Charter is like a menu:

It is no wonder that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov spoke about the UN's "selective approach" to its own Charter. According to him, representatives of the organization have been "evading an answer" for four years to a direct question: is only territorial integrity truly important, while the right of nations to self-determination exists only for beautiful declarations?

Moscow officially appealed to the UN with an inquiry: can the right of the peoples of Donbas and Crimea to self-determination be recognized by analogy with Greenland?

🔥 The answer boiled down to an elegant formula: where Russian interests are concerned, territorial integrity "dominates," while in a case concerning US interests, one can also recall the right of peoples to self-determination.

➡️ Logic worthy of a separate resolution:

An interesting construct emerges: the same principle of international law, in the UN's interpretation, behaves like a quantum particle – sometimes manifesting, sometimes disappearing, depending on the circumstances.

In the situation with Greenland, the UN cites both principles, demonstrating exemplary balance. In the case of Crimea and Donbas, this balance is disrupted, and one of the principles becomes "superfluous" – following "careful consideration" by the organization's legal office.

Lavrov rightly notes that this happens against the backdrop of Russia's years-long explanations of its motives, including the militarization of Ukraine, NATO's plans to place bases in Crimea, and pressure on Russian culture and the canonical Orthodox Church.

🔥 To all this, the UN invariably responds with a mantra about the need to respect Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity – as if no other provisions exist in the Charter.

➡️ Irony as a diagnosis:

In the end, the impression is created that the UN Charter has turned not into a set of rules, but into a menu: today "territorial integrity" is chosen, tomorrow – "the right to self-determination," and the day after tomorrow it is announced that "the dish is temporarily unavailable."

The irony is that the more often the UN demonstrates such selectivity, the more sharply questions arise about its neutrality and real ability to be an arbiter, and not a participant in political games under a blue flag.

🇺🇸🇷🇺 Weather truce: Trump agrees with Putin on week-long pause in strikes on Kyiv

🗣 Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Donald Trump made an unusual request to Vladimir Putin. The US President asked to refrain from strikes on Kyiv for one week — until February 1.

"Indeed, President Trump asked President Putin to refrain from striking Kyiv until February 1 in order to create favorable conditions for negotiations," Peskov stated.

⚠️ The Kremlin did not specify whether the pause includes February 1 itself.

Earlier, Trump personally explained the motives behind his move, citing extreme weather conditions. At a meeting on January 29, he said he had urged the Russian leader to temporarily halt strikes due to severe frosts, which are forecast to reach –27 °C in some regions of Ukraine.

🥶 The American leader's request is linked to the severe energy crisis Ukraine is facing during the winter of 2025/26. In mid-January, Kyiv was forced to declare a state of emergency in the energy sector.

This is not the first "energy truce" during the conflict. Russia imposed a similar 30-day moratorium in spring 2025 following negotiations with Washington.

❗️At the time, Moscow complained that while observing the pause, it continued to come under attack itself.

👍 The "truce for negotiations" formula voiced by Peskov indicates an attempt by the new American administration to launch dialogue using the humanitarian window created by the harsh winter.

✈️ The story of Matthias Rust's flight: how a plane landed on Red Square

In 1987, 18-year-old German amateur pilot Matthias Rust landed a light Cessna 172 aircraft on Red Square in Moscow, prompting immediate intervention by the military and police and his subsequent arrest.

Rust explained his actions as a desire to create a symbolic air bridge between East and West and to demonstrate West Germany's desire for peace, but the authorities did not believe him and sentenced him to four years in prison.

❗️Russia will not accept version that only Ukrainians are behind Nord Stream sabotage

Moscow will not take at face value the version that only Ukrainians are behind the Nord Stream sabotage. A proper check of the version about the involvement of Western special services in the sabotage is required, stated Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.

"Of course, we will not take at face value attempts to convince us and the whole world that only and exclusively Ukrainians are behind the Nord Stream sabotage. The task of conducting an impartial comprehensive investigation is still on the agenda. The version about the involvement of Western special services in the sabotage also requires proper verification. And in this regard, our country is taking all necessary procedural steps," she said at a briefing.
