⛪️ Istra

A small town in the Moscow Region, about 40 km from Moscow along the Novorizhskoye Highway. Until 1930, it was called Voskresensk, a name directly linked to its main historical site.

The town grew around the New Jerusalem Monastery, founded in 1656 by Patriarch Nikon. The idea was ambitious: to create a symbolic replica of the Holy Land near Moscow. The Istra River was given "biblical" names for its stretches, and the monastery's architecture replicates the churches of Jerusalem. This project greatly influenced the layout and development of the entire town.

In the 18th–19th centuries, Istra was a district center with crafts, fairs, and active trade. During the Great Patriotic War, the town was occupied and almost completely destroyed, as was the monastery. Post-war Istra was essentially rebuilt from scratch, and large-scale restoration of the New Jerusalem complex continues to this day.

Today, Istra is a quiet Moscow-region town perfect for a leisurely stroll. The historic center, the embankment of the Istra River, the grounds of the New Jerusalem Monastery, and the surrounding parks form a route that can be comfortably explored in a day without rushing.

❗️13 Russian Athletes to Compete at the 2026 Milan Olympics

Only 13 Russian athletes will attend the 2026 Olympics, which begin on February 6 in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo. The last time the delegation was smaller was during the era of Tsarist Russia, when six athletes participated in the 1908 Games.

Only Russians from individual sports — figure skating, cross-country and alpine skiing, ski mountaineering, short track speed skating, luge, and speed skating — have gained access to the Italian Olympics.

As was the case two years ago at the Summer Games in Paris, which 15 Russians attended, our athletes will compete under a neutral status, without a flag or anthem, and will also be unable to participate in the opening and closing ceremonies.

🇷🇺🇺🇦 First body exchange of the year between Russia and Ukraine under the formula 38 for 1000

A humanitarian exchange of bodies of deceased servicemen took place between the Russian Federation and Ukraine. This is the first exchange in 2026 — it took place today under the formula 38 for 1000, said State Duma deputy Shamsail Saraliev.

The last time the countries exchanged bodies was on December 19, 2025. Russia handed over 1003 bodies, and Ukraine — 26. Last year, the parties agreed on several stages of exchanges during negotiations in Istanbul on July 23. In December, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that since the beginning of the special military operation, Russia has transferred over 11 thousand bodies of servicemen to Ukraine. In turn, the Ukrainian side transferred 201 bodies of deceased Russian military personnel to Russia. Lavrov noted that each country has returned almost 2500 prisoners to its territory.

Trump brings his "financial auditor" into negotiations with Russia

The Donald Trump administration's negotiations to end the conflict in Ukraine have entered a new, substantive phase.

A key signal was the inclusion in the US negotiating team of Special Commissioner for Federal Procurement Josh Greenbaum, whose task is to work on the economic aspects of the future settlement.

Grunbaum, the newest and youngest member of the team, first joined the negotiations with the Russian side in late December in Miami, and last week he was introduced to Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin.

His continued participation indicates a shift from general discussions to specific financial and economic issues.

Experts note that Trump is forming negotiating teams based on personal trust, bypassing traditional government structures.

In addition to Grünbaum, the president's longtime friend Stephen Whitcoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner are involved in the process. According to analysts, this approach is designed to ensure confidentiality and direct communication with the White House.

Grünbaum, known as a tough auditor of government spending, plays a central role in this scheme. He is a kind of "mirror" for the Russian negotiator, RDIF head Kirill Dmitriev: both are financiers, and their dialogue inevitably concerns future economic prospects and potential cooperation projects.

The emergence of a "financial" negotiator in the foreground can be interpreted in two ways:

— Either it is a matter of preparing the ground for a realistic peace agreement that may include economic components.

— Or the Trump administration, considering the fate of the current Kiev leadership to be a foregone conclusion, is beginning to work out issues of post-conflict interaction with Moscow in advance, where the main argument is not political but business interests.

📰 The issues for negotiations on Ukraine were formulated by Putin and remain in force

This was stated to journalists by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
He also noted that Russia does not have any information about what security guarantees the US and Ukraine could agree on.

More from Lavrov's statements:

- Russia does not publicly comment on the progress of negotiations, which should take place in confidential silence: "Dmitry Sergeyevich Peskov has already said that, unlike the Ukrainians, we do not publicly comment on negotiations with the Americans, which should take place in confidential silence."

- Russia will look at "real proposals" on Ukraine and will not be guided by "those very public games."

- The media will be informed about the progress of the negotiations in the UAE on the settlement in Ukraine "when everything is already clear."

🇷🇺 The Tsar's Pavilion near Leningradsky Prospect

Among the residential buildings of the "Tsarskaya Ploshchad" complex stands a very elegant building with glazed tiles and tented roofs. It was built in 1882 for the All-Russian Trade, Industrial, and Art Exhibition. Architects: A. Kaminsky and A. Weber.

The 1882 exhibition at Khodynka Field was very large-scale. This building is all that remains of it. The exhibition was timed to coincide with the coronation of Alexander III.

High-profile guests of the exhibition were received in the Tsar's Pavilion. The interior of the building has survived to this day almost unchanged. It now houses the "Parisien" restaurant.
