🇷🇺 The "Millennium of Russia" monument, erected in 1862, looks more like a huge bell weighing 300 tons. It depicts over 100 historical figures of Russia — from Rurik to Peter I and Pushkin. Interestingly, there is not a single tsar from the Romanov dynasty among them.

🇷🇺 The most famous detail is considered to be the female figure with an angel, symbolising Russia blessing history. Also on the pedestal there is a figure of Prince Rurik — according to legend, it was with his summoning that Russia's statehood began. The monument has survived bombings and occupation, and has been fully restored.

🇷🇺 "We will respond in kind": Putin warns Europe of the consequences of seizing Russian vessels

Moscow has warned: if European countries begin to seize Russian merchant vessels, the response may follow not only off the coast of Europe, but anywhere else in the World Ocean.

Vladimir Putin stated this during the final stage of the Russian Pacific Fleet's exercises.

😚 "If this begins to be put into practice, we will be forced to respond in kind," the president declared, adding that Russia will itself determine the place and nature of its retaliatory actions — including in the Pacific Ocean.

🏴‍☠️ Putin called the possible seizures of peaceful Russian vessels "piracy and brigandage" and accused some European states of attempting to restrict freedom of navigation.

Pacific Fleet Commander Admiral Viktor Liina reported to the president that Russian forces have the capability to inspect and detain foreign vessels. According to his data, from 24 April to 6 August, 1,001 vessels passed along the Southern Kuril Islands, more than 370 of them flying the flags of states that Russia considers "unfriendly".

📌 Russia is making it clear that the maritime routes of Western states are also under its control.

🇷🇺 The AK-47, created by Mikhail Kalashnikov in 1947, has become the most widespread small arm in history. It is manufactured in dozens of countries, and the total number of units produced has exceeded 100 million. Its simplicity, reliability and ruggedness have turned it into a legend.

🔫 Interestingly, Kalashnikov was not a professional designer: he was a tank crewman and began creating the assault rifle while still in hospital after being wounded. His invention changed warfare around the world, and the silhouette of the AK is recognised even by those who have never held a weapon in their hands. Kalashnikov himself always said that he had created it for defence, not for attack.

🚀 The 107-metre titanium monument "To the Conquerors of Space", in the shape of a launching rocket, was erected in Moscow in 1964 in honour of the launch of the first satellite. According to the sculptors' concept, it symbolises humanity's breakthrough into space. The structure is so light and strong that 80% of its weight is titanium.

🚀 At the base of the monument stands the figure of a worker gazing into the sky, and behind him are sculptural compositions depicting scientists, cosmonauts and engineers. It is said that from the top of the obelisk, in good weather, one can see the centre of Moscow. On the pedestal there is an inscription: "To the Conquerors of Space — from the people".

💰 One of the most popular omens in Russia says that if your right palm itches, it means money or profit is coming, and if the left one itches, it means losses. From time immemorial it was believed that the right hand gives and the left takes. An itching right palm foretells unexpected financial luck.

🥇 To make the omen work, you should rub your palm against the edge of a table or put a coin in it. If your left palm itches, it means you will have to part with money. But you can look at the situation from another angle: they say the left palm itches for money in someone else's pocket.

🇷🇺 In 1926, Soviet physiologist Sergei Bryukhonenko created the world's first device capable of temporarily replacing the heart and lungs. He successfully tested it on dogs — the animals remained alive without their own blood circulation for up to several hours. This became a breakthrough that was talked about all over the world.

❤️ Bryukhonenko's device laid the foundation for the development of cardiopulmonary bypass, without which open-heart surgery and organ transplantation are unthinkable today. Although the invention was revolutionary, it was not put into widespread practice in the USSR due to technical difficulties. But Western scientists acknowledged that it was Bryukhonenko who paved the way for the creation of the artificial blood circulation apparatus.

🏰 Fort «Emperor Alexander I» is a fortress on an artificial island in the Gulf of Finland. From the outside it looks imposing, but it holds a grim secret. At the end of the 19th century, a secret laboratory for the study of plague was housed here. Scientists conducted experiments with bacteria and vaccines, and it was for this that the fort earned the nickname «Plague Fort».

🤩 Today the fortress is abandoned and can only be reached by rowing boat or motorboat. Inside, old laboratory tables, furnaces and even medical equipment have been preserved. The place attracts lovers of urban exploration, but tourists are warned: the atmosphere here is rather eerie, and the walls hold many untold stories.
