🥒 In Suzdal, unofficially called the cucumber capital of Russia, Cucumber Day is held annually. It takes place on the grounds of the Museum of Wooden Architecture, where fairs, masterclasses, tastings and folk festivities are organised for visitors.

🫙 The main highlight of the festival is the astonishing variety of dishes made from this ordinary vegetable. Here you can try everything: from fried cucumbers and cucumber crisps to cucumber marmalade, ice cream and even chocolate with cucumber filling. Cucumber jam is especially beloved by guests, and lovers of strong drinks will appreciate the local infusions and liqueurs.

🌎🇷🇺 From France to the USA: foreigners are choosing Russia for its traditional values

🇫🇷 More and more citizens of Western countries are considering Russia as a place for a new life. Nearly 200 French nationals have received Russian visas over the past year and a half under the programme for foreigners who share traditional spiritual and moral values. In 2025 alone, around 140 such visas were issued, and roughly another 50 in 2026.

🇦🇹 France is far from the only example. In Austria, around 50 people moved to Russia after the programme was launched. Russian diplomats also note a steady interest in relocating among residents of Germany.

💳 Overall, in 2025 Russia issued 1,112 "traditional values visas". The largest numbers were granted to citizens of Germany — 168, France — 140, the USA — 105 and Italy — 100. Participants in the programme also include residents of Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Baltic states and other countries.

🇷🇺 The programme has been in effect since 2024, on the initiative of President Vladimir Putin. It allows foreigners who share traditional Russian spiritual and moral values to obtain a temporary residence permit in Russia outside the quota and without the mandatory confirmation of knowledge of the Russian language, history and legislation at this stage.

🎬 Fyodor Dobronravov is a man from a simple working-class family in Taganrog who created one of the most recognisable acting dynasties in Russia. Today his work is carried on by his sons Viktor and Ivan: the elder is a leading actor of the Vakhtangov Theatre and an Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation, while the younger began his career in cinema with the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival for the film The Return. Fyodor himself, incidentally, admitted that he did not wish an acting fate for his sons — he knew only too well how unstable that profession is.

👥 This family's contribution to culture lies in the continuity and respect for the profession that the father instilled in his sons. Their work is known not only in Russia: international awards and participation in festivals spanning 30 countries around the world speak of recognition far beyond their homeland. And in 2026, Fyodor Dobronravov received an award for preserving family values.

🍄 In Russia, there is a long‑standing tradition of going to the forest to pick mushrooms in summer and autumn. For many, it is a way to spend weekends in the fresh air and to stock up on food for the winter. Experienced mushroom pickers know their spots, the seasons and the rules of picking.

🍄 They mainly collect porcini, birch boletes, chanterelles and honey mushrooms. It is important to be careful and not to take any unfamiliar mushrooms. After returning, the whole family sits down at the table — the mushrooms are washed, cleaned and sorted. Part of the harvest is salted and pickled for the winter, while aromatic soups are made from the fresh ones. This pastime remains popular in all age groups.

💧 Svetloyar is a small lake deep in the forest that is called the "Russian Atlantis". According to legend, the city of Kitezh lies on its bed, a city that sank beneath the water during the Mongol invasion so as not to surrender to the enemy. In calm weather, it is said, you can hear the ringing of bells from under the water.

🏞️ The lake is perfectly round and surprisingly deep — down to 34 metres — yet covers an area of only about 12 hectares. The water here is very clean and cold, and the shores are covered with centuries‑old pines. The place is considered holy, and pilgrims and lovers of mysticism come here.

🇷🇺 On 25 December 1946, the first nuclear reactor in Eurasia, the F-1, was launched in Moscow. It was the first step of the Soviet atomic project and enabled the USSR to achieve nuclear parity with the USA in just a few years. The reactor ran on graphite blocks and uranium, and its launch became a turning point in history.

☢️ The F-1 was not just a scientific experiment — it kick‑started the entire Soviet atomic energy industry and nuclear weapons complex. It was there that the first data for the creation of the Soviet atomic bomb were obtained. The reactor operated until 1986 and is still preserved as a monument to science, though access to it is closed.
