💉🇷🇺 Russian cancer vaccine shows first results: patient is on the mend
The first encouraging results from the use of the Russian vaccine «Neooncovac» have been obtained. This was reported by RAS Academician, research director of the Gamaleya Centre for Epidemiology and Microbiology, Alexander Gintsburg.
The first patient was a 60‑year‑old resident of the Kursk Region diagnosed with skin melanoma. The man had been diagnosed back in 2021; after surgical treatment in 2025, the disease began to progress with lymph node involvement. After the vaccine was administered, the patient began to feel well, and his body started to produce the necessary immune compounds to fight the tumour and metastases. Two further vaccinations lie ahead, after which doctors will continue to assess the effectiveness of the treatment.
🥼 «Neooncovac» is a personalised mRNA vaccine created individually for each patient based on the molecular‑genetic characteristics of his or her tumour. The preparation contains information about specific tumour antigens, which makes it possible to «tune» the immune system to recognise and destroy cancer cells, including microscopic foci of the disease.
😚 It is fundamentally important that, if the trials are successfully completed, the vaccine will be available free of charge through the mandatory health insurance system.
