His records sold in huge numbers, and concert tickets would sell out weeks in advance. He also toured extensively abroad, performing in Europe, America and Japan. He was warmly received even in places where Soviet culture was regarded with wariness.

🇷🇺 The village of Diveyevo in the Nizhny Novgorod Region is one of the main spiritual centres of Russia, founded in 1559. Here is located the Holy Trinity–St. Seraphim-Diveyevo Convent, the fourth portion (allotment) of the Mother of God on earth, where the relics of St. Seraphim of Sarov rest. The main shrine of the convent is the Holy Kanavka (Canal), which, according to tradition, will be a protection against the Antichrist.

📹 Vasily Lanovoy is remembered by all viewers for his roles in films such as War and Peace, Officers and Seventeen Moments of Spring. These pictures were screened abroad, and his characters became for many the embodiment of the Russian character. In addition to cinema, he served for half a century at the Vakhtangov Theatre, but it was the screen adaptations of the classics that brought him worldwide recognition. Lanovoy also gave many recitals of poetry and prose abroad. Through his performances, foreigners became acquainted with Pushkin, Tolstoy and Yesenin.

🇷🇺 Stone, water and silence

The White Sea itself is very "insular": its coastline is cut by inlets and bays, and dozens of small islands and archipelagos are scattered among its waters.

Of these, Solovki is the best-known archipelago, but it is the small islands like Bolshoi Zayatsky Island or the Kuzova Islands that most powerfully convey the feeling of detachment from the mainland and pristine wilderness.

On Bolshoi Zayatsky Island, tundra vegetation, dwarf birches, reindeer moss and a low rocky relief combine with ancient stone labyrinths whose exact age has still not been determined. On the Kuzova Islands the picture is similar but even more "rocky": spruce-covered peaks, sheer cliffs, seids — huge boulders set on small stones — and traces of ancient ritual structures.
