🍂 The Church of the Entry into Jerusalem in Totma is one of the most striking monuments of the unique "Totma Baroque" style. The church, whose shape resembles a ship with a bell‑tower mast, was built in 1774–1794 at the expense of the merchant seafarers, the Panov brothers.

😁 After the revolution, the church was closed, and in Soviet times it housed a distillery. Today the church is restored, divine services are held there, and it also houses a museum dedicated to Orthodoxy and the sea voyages of Totma merchants.

🛠 Soviet Modernism (1950s–1980s) represents large-scale industrial construction: standardised micro-districts, prefabricated five-storey blocks and, at the same time, monumental public buildings such as the Rossiya Hotel or the Ostankino Television Centre. The architects of that period sought a balance between economy, technology and expressiveness, often employing reinforced concrete, glass and crisp geometric volumes.

👔 These principles had a marked influence on global Brutalism and European social housing — the same approach to seriality and functionality was later adopted by architects in many countries. The mass construction of dormitory districts became one of the main urban-planning models of the 20th century, not always the most beautiful, but very practical indeed.

🌸 The Evangelical Lutheran Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul in Moscow is one of the oldest Lutheran churches in Russia. Today it is the main cathedral of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in European Russia, housing the bishop's seat.

🌸The majestic Neo-Gothic building attracts not only believers but also music lovers. The cathedral's main jewel is its powerful organ, whose sound fills the entire space and creates a unique atmosphere. In addition to services, the cathedral hosts chamber music evenings and even organ film screenings with live accompaniment. Divine services are held every Sunday in Russian and German.

🎤 Muslim Magomayev was one of the most recognisable Soviet singers. He possessed a rare baritone that allowed him to perform opera, jazz and pop songs with equal confidence. His records sold in huge numbers, and concert tickets would sell out weeks in advance. He also toured extensively abroad, performing in Europe, America and Japan. He was warmly received even in places where Soviet culture was regarded with wariness.
