Sesame rise continues

The price of sesame seeds continues its hike in April according to reports from the Ethiopian Commodity Exchange (ECX) indicated. The average price has also increased by a record 35 percent compared with a similar period last year.
According to the monthly report of ECX, in April 19,436 tons of sesame seeds were traded for a total transaction price of 1.03 billion birr, while 70 percent of the volume and 72 percent of the value was secured from the seeds from the product of Hummera/Gonder type.

Ethiopia’s mining revenue falls sharply

One of the popular coverage that BBC covered so far in Ethiopia is the Wollo Famine that presented horrible picture of people who died with hunger and loose there weight. Though it is a past history some westerner still picture Ethiopia in the film that they saw back 46 years ago. The man behind the story and whose name is very popular in the BBC as well in the global media is Jonathan Dimbleby. The journalist agreed that the famine was a horrible and shocking situation in the history of Ethiopia but he said that Empereor Haileselassie was not aware of the situation and did not concealed to the global world.

Rules hinder local company from competing with imports

A pipe factory in Amhara is experiencing chronic difficulties competing in the local market because its products cost 20 percent more than imported ones.
Ethiopia was hoping to stop the 100 percent of imports by agricultural firms by producing three layers of greenhouses. However, taxes for importing raw material and 15 the percent Value-Added (vat) sales tax makes their products expensive and hinders them from competing with foreign imports.

Wegagen sees remittance increase, links with WorldRemit
