MoTI makes first trade policy

The Ministry of Trade and Industry (MoTI), is responding to disappointing results in both local and international commerce by drafting its first trade policy.
Exports and local trade revenue have both declined according to Wondimu Filate, Public Relations Head at the Ministry and further said that they are working to improve trade.

Medical waste disposal center still inactive

The absence of proclamation is delaying the disposal of medical waste even though one of the eight medical waste incineration centers in Adama inaugurated.

Turkish Cargo to start flying to Addis

Turkish Airlines, which recently moved its airport from Ataturk to Istanbul, will begin flying cargo planes to Addis Ababa.
Turkish flies to 56 African destinations which is the second highest next to Ethiopian and their desire to increase their market in Africa even further. Company officials who met with Ethiopian journalists at the Istanbul headquarters stated that Africa remains the priority for Turkish Airlines, as the air carrier expands to all four corners of the world. ‘Horo’ Doro could scramble Ethiopia’s egg market

The Ministry of Agriculture will lab test a new and improved local chicken breed called ‘Horo’ in the next few months. If they succeed it will mean a breakthrough in Ethiopian poultry production. ‘Horo’ is a potential disease-resistant breed of chicken that lays more eggs. Currently the pure, local Ethiopian chickens hatch a maximum of 60 eggs per year.

Fake news killing turtles

For the last three months, Tortoises have been sold for 60,000 birr to 400,000 birr at local markets. Rumors have spread, falsely claiming that their shells consist of mercury and that this could block phone and Internet networks.
What are commonly named leopard tortoises are being sold in Debre Birhan, Gonder, Addis Ababa, Awash and along the borders of Djibouti. JV cable company triples production

Euro Cable plc, a pioneer in wire manufacturing in Ethiopia, inaugurates a new expansion that will triple its production by introducing new product lines.
The new factory located in the southeast outskirts of Addis Ababa around Gelan Industrial Area was officially inaugurated in the presence of federal and regional government officials.
