The UN Human Rights Council’s decision today to launch a fact-finding mission regarding #HumanRightsViolations by the Islamic Republic regime in response to recent and ongoing protests in Iran is a victory for both the Iranian people and the free world. The findings of this mission will support efforts to bring responsible criminals to justice in the near future.

I am grateful to Germany and Iceland for requesting today’s special session of the UN Human Rights Council. I applaud all of the states that voted in favor of this fact-finding mission, thereby demonstrating their concern for the Iranian people, but I emphasize that the Iranian people need even more support from each of them and the rest of free world in their struggle for democracy and human rights.

I call upon those states who abstained from the vote to reconsider their position and stand with the Iranian people. And I warn those states who voted against the fact-finding mission that, in siding with the Islamic Republic regime, they are aligning themselves not just with evil, but with a regime that will not survive long enough to repay their loyalty. In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, the arc of the moral universe may be long, but it bends toward justice. The day of justice for the Iranian people is very near.

زنان ایران از اولین قربانیان جمهوری اسلامی بودند و از همان روزهای نخست در خط مقدم مبارزه برای آزادی کشورمان از بند اسارت رژیم قرار داشتند. امروز آنها موفق شدند تا جمهوری اسلامی را از جایی که به آن هرگز تعلق نداشت، یعنی "کمیسیون مقام زن ملل متحد" حذف کنند.

اعتبار نهایی این موفقیت را باید به مردم ایران داد. فعالانی متعهد نیز به آنها کمک کردند تا این گام در مسیر عدالتخواهی زنان ایران و جنبش دموکراتیک ما ممکن شود. من هم‌چنین سپاسگزار کشورهایی هستم که امروز در همبستگی با مردم ایران و آرمان اصیل‌شان رای دادند.

الهام مدرسی، آرمیتا عباسی، حمیده زراعی، نیلوفر شاکری، مرضیه میرقاسمی، انسیه موسوی، فاطمه نظری‌نژاد، فاطمه مصلح حیدرزاده، شهرزاد درخشان، فاطمه جمال‌پور، نیلوفر کردونی، سمیه معصومی، فاطمه حربی، ژاسمین حاج میرزامحمدی و مائده سهرابی در زندان کرج در اعتراض به بازداشت و شکنجه و محرومیت از دارو و درمان، دست به اعتصاب غذا زده‌اند. جان آنها در خطر است. صدای‌شان باشیم. این زنان شجاع و همه زندانیان سیاسی باید فوری و بدون قید و شرط آزاد شوند.

To protest unjust detention and torture by the regime, Armita Abbassi, Elham Modaressi, Hamideh Zerai and 12 other Iranian women are on hunger strike in a prison in Karaj. Their lives are in danger. I call upon the human rights community to focus efforts on their immediate release.

یک ‌سال گذشت از روزی که «مهسا» دخترِ ایران را برای ابتدایی‌ترین حق زندگی‌اش کشتند و به دنبالِ آن، زخمی کهنه سر باز کرد تا زن و مرد یک ملت، از هر جای این سرزمین، یک‌ دل و یک ‌صدا شوند و از "زن، زندگی, آزادی" بگویند.
مهسا (ژینا) امینی، معرف تمامِ کسانی بود که در۴۴ سال گذشته، قدم به قدم پیش رفتند تا استبداد دینی را عقب برانند و عقب ‌ماندگی‌های تاریخی وطن‌شان را جبران کنند و آن را دوباره بسازند. تک‌ تک نام‌ های جان ‌باختگان سال و دورانی که گذشت، شناسنامه‌ ایران ماست.
