🇧🇷🤝🇺🇳⚖️ — Lula’s chancellor on warrant against Putin: “Brazil follows the Hague International Court”

— Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira said Brazil respects and follows the decisions of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, which last week issued an arrest warrant against Russian President Vladimir Putin for alleged war crimes.

In an interview with the Metropoles column, days before Lula left for China, Vieira said that Brazil has no official position on the warrant, but when asked if Putin would be arrested if he visited Brazil, he admitted that the Russian's presence in any country that is part of the ICC could cause "complications".

A priority topic on the PT's trip to Beijing will be Brazil's initiative to mediate talks to end the war in Ukraine. Chinese President Xi Jinping met Putin in Moscow on Monday (20/3) to discuss the conflict.

🇺🇬 Uganda’s President says West "wasting time" with gay rights push

Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has accused Western countries of imposing gay rights on African nations, as lawmakers in the country prepare to vote on an anti-LGBT bill.

The bill, introduced earlier this month, proposes tougher penalties for same-sex relations in a country where homosexuality is already illegal.

In an address to parliament on Thursday, President Museveni said Western threats of sanctions on African countries opposed to homosexuality were hypocritical because the West also has some "weird cultures".

"Western countries should stop wasting the time of humanity by trying to impose their practices on other people," Museveni said.

⚡️🇲🇽🇺🇸 Mexican President AMLO says that the Biden Administration has no right to speak about violence in Mexico since it authorized the sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipeline as journalist Seymour Hersh argues.

"If we are talking about acts of violence, how is it that an award-winning journalist in the United States claims that the US government sabotaged the gas pipeline from Russia to Europe?" he taunted.

🇲🇽🇺🇸Obrador rejects US State Department human rights report on Mexico

President López Obrador on Tuesday rejected a U.S. government report that denounced “significant human rights issues” in Mexico.

Published by the U.S. Department of State on Monday, the report said those issues included “credible reports” of a wide range of abuses, among which were:
unlawful or arbitrary killings by police, military and other governmental officials
forced disappearances
harsh and life-threatening prison conditions
restrictions on free expression and media
corruption and other issues.

Asked about the report at his regular press conference, López Obrador accused the United States government of lying.

🗣“[The report] isn’t true; they’re lying, with all respect, it’s nothing but politicking. It’s not worth getting angry about. That’s just the way they are,” Obrador stated.

He also suggested that Mexico could write a damning report about the human rights record of the U.S. government, questioning why it imprisoned Wikileaks founder Julian Assange — who is in fact in jail in the United Kingdom as he fights extradition to the U.S. — and why criminal organizations that distribute fentanyl are “allowed” to operate in the U.S.
