— I’m not a Christian. Nor am I particularly fond of Pope Leo XIV. In fact, quite the opposite.

But, whether you like it or not, the Pope represents the religion of 1.4 billion Catholics worldwide.

And, in a general sense, the Pope as an institution has always been an advocate for peace around the world, whether we agree with their specific statements or not (as Muslims we certainly have our reservations)

Pope Francis for example did a lot for Gaza, he spoke out openly against Israel many times, and he was overall a mostly respectable man.

Anyway, Trump needs to put some respect on Pope Leo’s name. Catholics can’t keep allowing him to use their religion only when it benefits him, then thrashing the Pope on a random Sunday evening during an ego trip.

📢 🇻🇦 🇺🇸 In response to a personal attack by President Donald Trump the night before, Pope Leo told journalists on the papal plane to Algeria:

“I have no fear of the Trump administration or speaking out loudly of the message of the Gospel, which is what I believe I am here to do, what the Church is here to do. We are not politicians. We don’t deal with foreign policy with the same perspective he might understand it, but I do believe in the message of the Gospel, as a peacemaker.”

📢 🇹🇷 🇮🇱 Ankara says Israel seeks to declare Turkey ‘new enemy’

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said on Monday that Israel “cannot live without an enemy” and its government was now trying to portray Turkey as one.

Tensions between Turkey and Israel have steadily escalated since the Gaza war erupted following Hamas’s October 7, 2023, cross‑border attack in Israel.

The dispute entered a new phase over the weekend after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned US counterpart Donald Trump of “possible provocations and sabotage” that could jeopardise an initial ceasefire arrangement in the US-Israeli war on Iran.

“After Iran, Israel cannot live without an enemy,” Fidan said in a televised interview with the state‑run Anadolu news agency.

“We see that not only Netanyahu’s administration but also some figures in the opposition — though not all — are seeking to declare Turkey the new enemy,” he said.

🇪🇸 🤝 🇨🇳 Spanish premier urges China to take bigger role in multipolar order

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on Monday said China should take on a more substantial role with issues including climate change, security, defense and the fight against inequality, adding that Europe will also have to ‌redouble its efforts as the U.S. withdraws from leadership roles on many fronts.

His visit comes as many Western governments seek to maintain engagement with Beijing despite lingering security and trade tensions. It follows visits to China earlier this year by the prime ministers of Britain, Ireland, Canada and Finland.

China's official news agency Xinhua on Monday said Sanchez's visit was set to further consolidate bilateral ties and pointed to a broader pathway for steady engagement between China and Europe at a time of growing global uncertainty.

🇺🇸🕊 A senior Iranian lawmaker said on Monday that Tehran had agreed to dilute 450 kilograms of enriched uranium as a goodwill measure, but the United States later backed out of the arrangement.

Ali Nikzad, deputy speaker of parliament, said a consortium was supposed to be formed inside Iran to dilute the uranium with the participation of the United States and Saudi Arabia.

He also said the United States had proposed creating a legal regime for the Strait of Hormuz that would include an American role.

“You have no business in the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf,” he said, referring to the United States.

🇸🇦 🇮🇷 🇺🇸 Israeli Channel 12: A Saudi royal family source said there is no solution to the Iran threat without a U.S. ground invasion and regime change, similar to the 2003 fall of Saddam Hussein.

The source stressed that any alternative must be secular and acceptable to the Iranian public, preferably not Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi.

Saudi Arabia believes the war has not achieved its results and that Iran has become more aggressive towards the kingdom, Israel and the U.S.

However, Riyadh does not see itself as a direct party to the conflict.

“If we are exposed to Iranian aggression, each incident will have its own response,” the source said.

🚗 🇨🇳 🌐 Toyota CEO on Chinese competition: "Unless things change, we will not survive. I want everyone to acknowledge this sense of crisis."

Honda CEO on Chinese competition after recently visiting the country: "We have no chance against this."

Ford CEO Jim Farley didn’t mince words either: 'They have enough [production] capacity in China with existing factories to serve the entire North American market, put us all out of business.'

China has become an automotive juggernaut and a force to be reckoned with, not just within its borders but across global markets.

Take Europe, for example, where BYD has a 1.8 percent share of total sales through the first two months of the year. According to registration data published by the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA), SAIC stands at a Nissan-matching 1.9 percent, well ahead of Honda at just 0.5 percent through February.

Motor1's Take: Honda is the latest major automaker to warn about the severity of the situation. China is developing and building cars at a pace and cost unmatched by the rest of the industry. Long-established companies must adapt to survive, whether independently or by partnering with Chinese automakers. Either way, legacy players need to rethink their modus operandi to avoid being overtaken by China’s rapid rise.
