Since the start of the war on Iran, factions across the political sphere have failed to develop a principled objection to the war. Many on the right have opposed the war based on trivial facts such as the war will cost too much, or gas prices will spike. The left, specifically the Democrats have utterly failed in opposing the war, having only condemned Trump’s incompetence in conducting the war. But these objections are trivial at most and offer very little substantial reasons for opposing the war. What if the war wasn’t expensive? What if gas prices didn’t increase? What if it was Joe Biden waging war on Iran? The lack of a systematic principled objection to this war speaks volumes for contemporary American society. Not only are these objections shallow and selfish, but it shows the amorality of American politics. Moral inquiry is not even on the table for many political actors in this country. In fact, I can predict that when this article is published there will be detractors who will have contentions with giving a moral analysis of this war at all. But one must be done, and one is needed.
