🚀 SpaceX launches private mission that’s expected to feature the first all-civilian spacewalk!

The mission Polaris Dawn is designed to carry its crew to the highest orbital altitude that humans have reached since 1972.

A SpaceX capsule carrying four private citizens blasted off early Tuesday on a five-day mission that is set to include the first spacewalk carried out by an all-civilian crew.

The journey is designed to carry the four crew members to the highest orbital altitude that humans have reached since the final Apollo moon mission in 1972: 870 miles above the Earth’s surface. That’s more than three times higher than the International Space Station.

While in space the group will test new spacesuits and technologies that could pave the way for future long-duration missions to the moon and eventually Mars.

🇩🇪 Germany would need up to 100 years at current rearmament pace to deter Russia, report says

Germany is rearming too slowly to counter Russia and will need as long as a century to build up parts of its military inventory to the level of 20 years ago, according to a think tank report released Monday.

The analysis by the Kiel Institute for the World Economy says Germany is barely managing to replace the weapons it is sending to help Ukraine’s war effort — stocks of air defense systems and howitzers have plummeted, for example — and is not spending enough to stand up to Russia.

“What Europe needs now is a permanent, substantial and immediate increase in Germany’s regular defense spending to at least 2% of GDP,” said Guntram Wolff, the report’s lead author.

“Let’s be clear — any ‘business as usual’ approach would be negligent and irresponsible in the face of Russian aggression.”

"But it was not until last year that Germany began to raise its regular defense spending in any significant way and reach NATO’s target spending levels, according to the report. Researchers say it is too little, too late."

"Years of downsizing and modest rearmament mean that the Bundeswehr, Germany’s military, is on track to reestablish its 2004 capabilities in combat aircraft in 15 years, in tanks in 40 years and in artillery howitzers in 100 years."

"Meanwhile, Russia’s war machine has ramped up production to the point where it can produce as many weapons in six months as all of Germany’s armed forces can currently field, according to the report."

"Russia is capable of comfortably expending 10,000 rounds of ammunition per day on the battlefield without fear of draining its inventory, while Germany would use up a year’s worth of its ammunition production within 70 days at the same rate of fire, researchers said."

“The ‘Zeitenwende,’ or epochal shift, in military spending promised by the German government in 2022 has so far proved to be empty rhetoric,” he said.

📝 Elbridge Colby: This is why the "we have degraded Russia" argument is wrong.

🚀🇨🇳 America’s Space Force Is Preparing for the Risk of War

Space Force Col. Raj Agrawal commands a 500-person military unit with teams located around the world that track every man-made object in orbit, watching for potential threats.

As China and Russia build arsenals of weapons that could target American military and civilian satellites, those threats are growing, and Agrawal’s unit is part of a relatively new military branch that is quietly preparing for a new era of warfare.

With 15,000 military and civilian personnel, and an annual budget of about $30 billion, Space Force is far smaller and less well known than any other branch of the military services.

Now, Space Force is emerging from the shadows—and the late-night punchlines—and its leaders are beginning to talk about its preparations for a potential war involving space—even as they say their aim is to deter, not destroy.

“We don’t want anyone to get the impression that we’re trying to be offensive in nature,” said Agrawal, whose unit is known as Delta 2. But, he added, “you can’t show resolve without the ability to attack.”

American combat in space wouldn’t necessarily involve satellite-killing explosions. The U.S. would likely use less brute-force tactics, such as blinding a spacecraft’s sensors, scrambling its electronics, or interfering with its communications with ground stations, officials in Colorado and Washington said.

U.S. military officials’ new willingness to openly discuss conflict in outer space reflects what they say are startling advances by China and Russia. Beijing is developing fleets of surveillance satellites and multiple types of satellite-killers aimed at eroding U.S. space superiority, they said, while Moscow has tested components for a nuclear-armed antisatellite device.

Moscow says the device suspected of being a prototype satellite-killer is for scientific research, and China’s foreign ministry spokesman has accused the U.S. of being the “main driver in turning outer space into a weapon and a battlefield.”

The U.S. wants to deter countries like Russia and China from using their space weapons, Gen. Chance Saltzman, the head of Space Force, said in an interview. But if those efforts fail, he said, then the U.S. must be able to “deny, disrupt and degrade” enemy space systems.

🚀 SpaceX can't fly Starship until November at least.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Marine Fisheries Service have forced SpaceX to halt all launches until they can assess the impact on marine life which rocket boosters when falling into the Gulf of Mexico.

Despite previously assessing that the impact of space launches on marine life is practically zero, the FAA asked for another round of consultations with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to which the NMFS is a part of, consultations which can last a minimum of 60 days but which can be prolonged at any time.

📝 Elon Musk: We will never get humanity to Mars if this continues.

Starship's fully and rapidly reusable design will exponentially increase humanity’s ability to access and utilize outer space. To unlock its full potential, and do it rapidly enough to meet commitments to national priorities like NASA’s Artemis program, Starships need to fly.

🇺🇸 Not only do the Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio, eat the pets, ducks and geese, they also drive around in cars and are causing accidents everywhere, posing a danger to every other pedestrian and driver.

Springfield mayor, Rob Rue admitted that this influx is straining public services and is causing a housing crisis in the city.

A few months ago, Springfield Ohio's population grew by 33% when 20k Haitians appeared out of nowhere to allegedly, "work" in the city's booming manufacturing sector.

State secretary for Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, has given temporary-protected-status to all Haitian migrants in the U.S, including the 20k sent to Springfield, making them, from a legal point of view, un-deportable.

🇺🇸 Factory owner in Springfield, Ohio, says that the Haitians "are better than the locals".

“Our Haitian associates come to work every day. They don't have a drug problem. They will stay at their machines. They are here to work... and that's a stark difference from what we're used to in our community.”

The same factory owner was interviewed by the New York Times a week earlier, and told the newspaper that he needed workers in his factory and the Haitians were more than happy to pick up jobs because, in his words, "they needed every cent".

📝: In other words, business owners in Springfield, Ohio, are more than happy to replace the native White American population because Haitians don't ask for bigger salaries to cope with rampant inflation.

🇺🇸 Ohio Republican Governor Mike DeWine sides with Haitian immigrants citing the “dire situation” in the country. 🔗 AF Post
🇺🇸 Ohio is sending troopers and $2.5 million to a city that has seen an influx of Haitian migrants

The governor of Ohio will send law enforcement and millions of dollars in healthcare resources to the city of Springfield as it faces a surge in temporary Haitian migrants that has landed it in the national spotlight.

Republican Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine said Tuesday he doesn’t oppose the Temporary Protected Status program under which some 15,000 Haitians have arrived in the city of about 59,000 people since 2020, but said the federal government must do more to help impacted communities.

On Wednesday, the Ohio State Highway Patrol will be dispatched to help local law enforcement with traffic issues that officials say have cropped up due to an increase in Haitians unfamiliar with U.S. traffic laws using the roads. DeWine said he is also earmarking $2.5 million over two years to provide more primary healthcare through the county health department and private healthcare institutions.

DeWine’s family operates a charity in Haiti in honor of their late daughter, Becky, who died in a car accident. He said the Haitians who have moved to Ohio are generally hard-working people who love their families and who are seeking to escape the violence in their home country for good jobs in Ohio.
