🇸🇩 Sudan is facing one of the worst hunger crises with hundreds of thousands already in famine and millions only one step away

A map of food insecurity:

yellow = stressed (16 million)
orange = crisis (14 million people)
red = emergency (6 million people)

🔶️ The projected map of hunger in sudan from june-october taking every area to phase 3 (crisis) at the very least with multiple areas at risk of famine

🔶️ Famine has only been declared twice since this scale has been created - one of which was in sudan less than a decade ago. don’t take this prediction lightly

🔶️ ‘[in only 6 months] the number of people facing high levels of acute food insecurity has increased by 45 percent from 17.7 million to 25.6 million’

🔶️ Over 12 million sudanese displaced since the conflict started 14 months ago -

🇸🇩 🇦🇪 🇺🇳 Sudan accuses UAE of fueling war with weapons to paramilitary rivals. UAE calls claim `ludicrous’

🔶️ U.N. experts monitoring an arms embargo in Darfur reported “credible” evidence in January that the UAE sent weapons to the Rapid Support Forces several times a week from northern Chad. U.S. Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield on Tuesday reiterated a U.S. appeal to all “external actors to stop fueling and prolonging this conflict, and enabling these atrocities, by sending weapons to Sudan.”

🔶️ Edem Wosornu, operations director for the U.N. humanitarian office, told the council the lives of 800,000 civilians trapped in El Fasher “hang in the balance,” echoing the risk of mass atrocities and warning that the violence in the encircled city “is just the tip of the iceberg.”

🔶️ Two decades ago, Darfur became synonymous with genocide and war crimes, particularly by the notorious Janjaweed Arab militias, against populations that identify as Central or East African. Up to 300,000 people were killed and 2.7 million were driven from their homes.

🔶️ Last Thursday, the Security Council adopted a resolution demanding the Rapid Support Forces immediately halt its siege of El Fasher — the only capital in Darfur it doesn’t control. The council also urged the paramilitary force and Sudan’s military “to seek an immediate cessation of hostilities.”

🏹 🇷🇺 🇾🇪 US intelligence claims Russian President Vladimir Putin asked Saudi Arabia permission to arm Yemen's Houthis with cruise missiles

🔶️ The fears of what current and former US officials described to Middle East Eye as "secondary" and "tertiary" effects of an Israeli ground attack on Hezbollah are being driven by US intelligence that claims Russia is considering stepping up its support for Iran's so-called Axis of Resistance.

🔶️ In Yemen, Russian President Vladimir Putin has considered providing Houthi rebel fighters with anti-ship ballistic cruise missiles, a senior US official told MEE, citing intelligence, and speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive report.

🔶️ The notion is not unprecedented. In November, the Wall Street Journal reported that the Wagner group, a Russian paramilitary, planned to provide Lebanon's Hezbollah with a Russian air defence system.

🔶️ "If Israel attacks inside Lebanon it would likely prompt a further deepening of the military relationship that Iran has with Russia in order to help Hezbollah defend itself," William Usher, a former senior Middle East analyst at the CIA, told MEE.

🔶️ “Russia could already be thinking about how it would assist the Houthis.”

🔶️ "Putin sees the US responsible for Ukrainian attacks on Russian vessels in the Black Sea. It is possible he could see doing something in the Red Sea as payback."

🔶️ But Fabian Hinz, an expert on ballistic and cruise missiles at the International Institute for Strategic Studies, said that between the Houthis and Russia, supply and demand matches.

🔶️ “If I was the Houthis, supersonic cruise missiles would be very high-up on my shopping list,” Hinz said. “And the Russians have quite good supersonic anti-ship cruise missiles.”

🇮🇱🇱🇧🇮🇷 — Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs, in direct answer to his Iranian Mission at UN, promises to destroy the Islamic Republic of Iran if it enters in the War between the Jewish State and the Lebanese Shiite Party Hezbollah

🇮🇱 Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs, Israel Katz on Twitter/X:
Iran threatens today to destroy Israel if Israel fully responds to Hezbollah attacks from Lebanon.

My response to Iran is clear:

➡️ 1. If Hezbollah does not cease its fire and withdraw from southern Lebanon, we will act against it with full force until security is restored and residents can return to their homes.

➡️ 2. A regime that threatens destruction deserves to be destroyed.

🚀 Yair Katz, head of the Israeli Aerospace Industry Workers' Council:

"We have a weapon that breaks the equation," says Katz. "The Americans, British, and Germans assist us with intelligence. Their help is crucial. In the event of an attack on Israel, we have a doomsday weapon."

☢️ The Israeli doctrine in a doomsday scenario, where they might resort to using nuclear weapons, is often referred to as the Samson Option. Named after the biblical figure Samson, who destroyed himself along with his enemies, this strategy is based on the principle of massive retaliation to ensure that any existential threat to Israel results in devastating consequences for its adversaries.

📌 The key components of the Samson Option include:

➡️ Second-Strike Capability: Israel maintains a second-strike capability through its sea-based nuclear arsenal, primarily in the form of submarines equipped with nuclear missiles. This ensures that even if Israel were to be severely damaged or destroyed by a first-strike attack, it could still retaliate.

➡️ Deterrence: The primary aim of the Samson Option is deterrence. By maintaining a credible threat of overwhelming nuclear retaliation, Israel seeks to dissuade any adversary from launching a large-scale attack that could threaten its existence.

➡️ Opacity: Israel follows a policy of deliberate ambiguity regarding its nuclear capabilities, neither confirming nor denying the possession of nuclear weapons. This policy is intended to enhance the uncertainty and deterrent effect without provoking a regional arms race.

➡️ Existential Threats: The doctrine is predicated on the notion that Israel would only resort to nuclear weapons in the face of an existential threat, such as a coordinated multi-front invasion, a successful WMD attack, or another scenario where the survival of the state is at stake.

➡️ Massive Retaliation: The Samson Option involves the use of nuclear weapons in a manner that would inflict catastrophic damage on the aggressor states, ensuring mutual destruction. This could include targeting major cities, military installations, and critical infrastructure of the adversary.

📝 🇵🇸 🇮🇱 Why Samson Doctrine doesn't work in the 21st Century | CIG #commentary

🔶️ In the Bible, Samson the Nazirite toppled the Philistine government in Gaza. He dragged them down along with himself by destroying the pillars of their Temple. "Let me die with the Philistines!" (Judges 16:30). This mindset is mirrored in Israeli strategic policy, where they would launch full-scale nuclear retaliation if they faced destruction. Now, throughout the Oct 7th War, the Israeli Defense Forces have flattened the Gaza Strip through indiscriminate bombardment. The impact on Hamas' military capabilities however, is negligible.

🔶️ Samson Doctrine made sense in the 1960s when politically fragile secular states opposed Israel with conventional militaries. But the math has changed since then. Direct threats to Israel are mainly an amalgamation of various factions, ideologies and non-state actors. Much like Hamas, will bombing cities and deserts militarily defeat them?

🔶️ Whether or not the US prevents Israel from using nuclear weapons, there is no guarantee it would achieve the killing blow. Even worse, an Israel which no longer holds any nuclear deterrence after expending their stocks. Mulling the Samson Option is to acknowledge that Israel is losing the strategic war.

🔶️ It will bloody the nose of the region, with the added effect of uniting neighboring countries against Israel which have been previously divided. Effectively reversing decades of Israeli foreign policy gains. Can Israel survive isolated from the majority of the world? Opposing forces have the capabilities to blockade the majority of goods arriving into Israel along with the destruction of their power grid.

🔶️ The cost so far without nukes has nearly brought about the complete and total destruction of Israel. Their economy is shattered, Israelis are exhausted, the sea blockade lingers and the US military is spread too thin, weary of waging wars for Israel in the middle east while refocusing the majority of manpower & material towards Europe and the Pacific. Leaving Israel to face an unprecedented existential crisis like no other.

🇹🇷 🤝 🇸🇾 Turkey’s president expresses willingness to restore diplomatic ties with Syria

🔶️ Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Friday that there is no obstacle preventing Turkey and Syria from restoring diplomatic ties that were cut off at the start of the Syrian civil war more than a decade ago.

🔶️ His comments came just days after Syrian President Bashar Assad made similar remarks, indicating a willingness among the two neighboring countries to end tensions and normalize relations.

🔶️ “There is no reason why (diplomatic ties) should not be established,” Erdogan told reporters.

🔶️ “In the same way that we kept our relations with Syria alive in the past — we had these meetings with Mr Assad that included family meetings — we cannot say that it will not happen again,” Erdogan said. He was referring to a vacation that the Erdogan and Assad families took in southern Turkey in 2008, before their relationship soured.

🔶️ On Wednesday, Syrian state media reported that in a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s special envoy to Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev, Assad “affirmed Syria’s openness to all initiatives related to the relationship between Syria and Turkey, based on the sovereignty of the Syrian state over all its territories on the one hand, and combating all forms of terrorism and its organizations on the other hand.”

🔶️ The Russian envoy, in turn, said that “the current circumstances seem more suitable than ever for the success of mediations, and that Russia is ready to work to push the negotiations forward, and that the goal is to succeed in restoring relations between Syria and Turkey,” Syrian state-run news agency SANA reported.

🔶️ Erdogan told reporters that Turkey respects Syria’s sovereignty.

🔶️ “There is no question of us having the aim of interfering in Syria’s internal affairs,” Erdogan said. “The people of Syria are our brothers.”

🌍 🇮🇱 🎯 With Israel's looming invasion of Lebanon upon us, the Middle East along with global partners have consolidated against a common foe. | CIG #commentary

-The Arab League recently made peace with Hezbollah after they previously renormalized ties with Syria.
-Now, Erdogan is breaking bread with Assad at time of heavily increased Turkish animosity towards Israel, which supports Kurdish Separatism.

🔶️ While heavy Russian mediation has made some of these changes possible. The common interest with Russia also includes:
-Israel shattering their friendship with the planned movement of Patriot systems from Israel to Ukraine.
-This may pressure Russia to close Syrian airspace to the detriment of the Israeli Air Force.
-Possible US involvement in the Middle East has also reportedly provoked a Russian response to support Iranian allies in Lebanon and Yemen.

🔶️ China has also been snubbed through Israel's pivot away from China to India in port investments through recent years.
-At the end of April, China hosted talks between Gaza's Hamas and the West Bank's Fatah leadership in an effort to bring unity between the Palestinian factions.

🔶️ Now, according to Guermantes Lailari, a Scholar at National Chengchi University in Taiwan and retired U.S. Air Force Officer:
-Massive amounts of recently acquired advanced Chinese military equipment and weapons technology were found in Gaza by the Israel Defense Forces.
-Chinese tunnel warfare specialists helped design and build the Hamas tunnels.
-Lailari also told Newsweek's Pesach Wolicki, that two tunnel engineers from China's People's Liberation Army were discovered by the IDF.

🔶️ Meaning that China helped Hamas significantly in its construction of the massive tunnel networks under the Gaza Strip. (The engineers were returned to China after pressure on Israel.)

Trump has failed by every metric except raising himself to (almost) mythic status. Because of this alone, nobody is even in the same room as him in terms of political influence. Not a single politician in the Western world even comes close.

This is not an endorsement of him, but a cold shower for the radical right. For too long, the radical right's play has been to debate liberalism out of power, whereas people are not moved by argument, but by narrative. Everyone backs a strong horse, and the strong horse says convincingly "history bends toward me". The right has won every "debate" it has ever had, and continues to lose the war. Unless and until we learn this lesson (among others), we will continue to be a fringe movement.

We have done a lot to move the Overton window, but overwhelmingly our work has been done by elites having fumbled the ball badly, and gone way too far, way too fast. History bends toward us, but not because we're master strategists. We suck at strategy and need to get better—and this includes crafting a more powerful myth than that of "progress". That's what this article is about.

The cities of New England were once the stronghold of the Puritan settlers of America and their descendants.

These cities experienced only modest demographic change during the Second Great Migration of African Americans.

But mass immigration thanks to the 1965 Immigration Act, Reagan Amnesty, and unchecked illegal immigration is transforming New England's cities.

Today Hispanics and Asians make up a larger share of the Boston population than Blacks.

Providence is on the cusp of becoming a Hispanic majority city.

And Bridgeport is not far behind. The city is already 42.3% Hispanic.

Whites have every right and incentive to stand up and reverse the tide of demographic change before our cities are lost in the mire.
