🇺🇸🇲🇽US States, Caribbean nations back Mexico’s appeal in arms lawsuit

Sixteen US states and a handful of Caribbean governments on Tuesday expressed support for Mexico’s appeal in a civil lawsuit against US gun manufacturers.

The states, which all have Democratic attorneys general, as well as the District of Columbia, filed an amicus curiae brief in a US court on Tuesday, while the countries of Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, the Bahamas, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago joined a separate amicus curiae brief.

Mexico said last week it had filed an appeal in a $10 billion lawsuit seeking to hold US gun makers responsible for facilitating the trafficking of deadly weapons across the border.

A US judge dismissed the lawsuit in September, citing a US law that protects arms manufactures from being held liable for crimes committed with their products.

The brief from the US states the judge’s decision was “premised on a misreading” of that law.

🇺🇸🇲🇽HSI El Paso seizes 10,617 doses of counterfeit prescription drugs imported from Mexico

Special agents with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) El Paso seized 10,617 doses of counterfeit pharmaceuticals and prescription drugs March 17 from area businesses, including a grocery store and flea market.

The seizures were the result of an HSI El Paso Commercial Fraud Group investigation with collaboration from U.S. Customs and Border Protection and industry representatives. The investigation revealed the prescription drugs and counterfeit pharmaceuticals were illegally imported from Mexico.

🇷🇴❌🇪🇺 Romanian president, Klaus Johannis, the EU's most trustiest politician, said that he's disappointed with the way the EU Commission handled subsidies for farmers affected by Ukrainian grain imports.

Johannis expressed his disappointment that the EU Commission did not negotiate with the countries affected and instead resorted to bureaucratic solutions. He said "Romania made immense sacrifices to make easier the export of grain from Ukraine to the world's markets".

"The EU uses a mathematical formula after which it calculates the subsidies based upon data that the Romanian Ministry of Agriculture it sends. I haven't seen the data therefore I cannot comment [...] it still feels wrong to not negotiate and use mathematical formulas [...] we have made immense sacrifices to help with making easier the export of grain from Ukraine to the world's markets [...] it is regrettable that the Commission chose a bureaucratic measure that puts under question its good faith" said the president.
