Not many people may know or have read the books of the scholar whose book we’re spotlighting tonight!

✍🏽 A Brief About the Author

Shaykh Abū ‘Abdir-Raḥmān ‘Abdus-Salām ibn Barjas Āl ‘Abdul-Karīm رحمه الله was a respected scholar known for his writings, lectures, and concern for the methodology of the Salaf.

He studied under major scholars such as Shaykh Ibn Bāz, Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymīn, Shaykh Ibn Jibreen, Shaykh Ahmad an-Najmi, and others رحمهم الله.

His works are known for their clarity, practical guidance, and strong attachment to the Qur’an, Sunnah, and understanding of the early scholars.

*Despite his short life (died at 38 years), his writings continue to benefit students around the world after his passing رحمه الله.*

*📖 A Brief About the Book*

‘Awā’iq at-Ṭalab is a concise yet powerful work discussing the barriers that prevent a person from attaining beneficial knowledge.

The Shaykh wrote this book as sincere advice to students of knowledge so they may recognise dangerous obstacles early and avoid them before they weaken their journey of learning.

Drawing heavily from the Qur’an, Sunnah, and statements of the Salaf, the author highlights 1️⃣0️⃣ major barriers to knowledge while also offering practical guidance on sincerity, discipline, manners, consistency, and the correct approach to seeking knowledge.

The book concludes with beautiful reminders regarding the etiquettes of teachers and students from the work of Al-‘Allamah As-Sa’di making it a valuable read for anyone serious about firmness upon beneficial learning.

قال العلامة عبدالسلام بن برجس رحمه الله:

فيا أيها الطلاب : إذا أردتم العلم من منابعه فهاؤم العلماء الكبار الذين شابت لحاهم ونحلت جسومهم ، وذبلت قواهم في طريق العلم والتعليم، الزموهم قبل أن تفقدوهم ، واستخرجوا كنوزهم قبل أن توارى معهم وفي الليلة الظلماء يفتقد البدر)

“O students! If you truly desire knowledge from its proper sources, then hold firmly to the major scholars; those whose beards have greyed, whose bodies weakened, and whose strength faded upon the path of learning and teaching.
Remain close to them before you lose them, and extract their treasures before they are buried with them. For indeed, in the darkness of the night, the loss of the moon is truly felt.”

We ask Allah to keep us firm upon the path to seeking beneficial knowledge and help us avoid the barriers and obstacles therein.
