New all-time high of 36.768 Million in May 2026.

Last high was November 2025 at 36.638 Million.

This is a monthly survey. It’s not tied to any Social Security disability payments.
If someone answers Yes to one of six questions then it's counted as disabled.
The total number is statistically imputed from the survey.

Notice the 3 sigma trend change that has occurred since February of 2021.

In a little over 5 years the survey has added over 6 Million Americans (22.5% growth).

The number of Americans ages 16 and over reporting a disability has hit a new all-time high of roughly 37 million.

As of July 2026, the Current Population Survey series sits at 37,029,000. That is not a rounding error or a seasonal blip. It is the continuation of a trend that broke higher more than five years ago and has refused to mean-revert.

February 2021 marks a clear inflection point.
The rate of increase shifted to a new, steeper trajectory, a 3-to-4 Sigma Deviation from the previous trend.

In the years since 2021, the survey has added seven million people.

Growth of this magnitude in a mature population is not normal aging, not “long COVID” in isolation and not some gradual sociological shift.
It was sudden. It has persisted.

Ignoring a sustained, multi-sigma break in a core government survey does not make the break disappear. It guarantees that the consequences continue to compound while institutions look the other way.

It's time to revisit the study given the fact that disabilities are still rising.
