Welcome to 2026, where we start a brand new year with intent! This will be an excellent year for all members.

Venezuela
Big news hitting the wires today: US forces have captured Nicolás Maduro and his wife in Venezuela, flying them straight to New York to face serious narco-terrorism and drug trafficking charges.

President Trump has already said the US will step in and manage things temporarily until a new government is in place.

Now, I know this is heavy geopolitical stuff, but let me break down why this could actually turn out positive for Altcoins over the medium to long term.

Venezuela has been one of the highest crypto adoption countries on the planet for years, mainly because of the economic mess and hyperinflation under Maduro. People there rely on altcoins (DASH, ETH, stablecoins, and others) to get by, send money, and protect whatever savings they have from sanctions and currency collapse.

With Maduro gone, we could see two big waves that push altcoins higher:

Short-term: More uncertainty and volatility in the region, which usually drives even more locals (and people watching from the sidelines) straight into decentralised assets as a safe haven.

Longer term: If a US-supported transition lifts some of the harshest sanctions, Venezuela’s massive oil reserves could start flowing into global markets again. That brings fresh money into the economy, but after years of distrust in traditional banking and fiat, much of that activity is likely to remain on-chain. We’re talking more DeFi usage, remittances, everyday payments, and real-world utility for Altcoins in an emerging market of over 30 million people.

We’ve seen events like this before: regime changes or sanction shifts often act as catalysts that accelerate crypto adoption across entire regions. If it also chips away at dollar dominance in Latin America (especially as Maduro’s old allies like Russia and China step back), it just accelerates the move toward borderless digital assets.

Keep an eye on solid utility altcoins, especially those strong in payments, privacy, or emerging markets. They could get a nice tailwind from this.
