BiT-Career Development Center collaborated with dereja to provide soft skills training for graduate students at Bahir Dar Institute of Technology.

Over the past two months, the center delivered the training, which comprised eight modules supported by a Learning Management System (LMS) and authorized by dereja. The training was attended by 30 trainees from the 2015 graduating class, and it was conducted by Mr. Habtamu Alemayehu, the Coordinator of BiT-Career Development Center.
Each module included an introduction session, reflection sessions, and guest speaker sessions. Within each module, participants engaged in activities, assignments, worksheets, group work, online tests, and training surveys, all of which were submitted through the LMS.
The first module, "Self-discovery," was the foundational module and focused on assessing oneself using new theories and worksheets. Although it was challenging to cover the entire module in one week, it served as a valuable starting point and emphasized the importance of recognizing one's capabilities and validating career interests.
The second module, "Building Self-image," highlighted the significance of self-branding. As a result, participants quickly began leveraging professional media platforms like LinkedIn, which was a key outcome of the training.
The "Communication" module provided important tips on effective communication, emphasizing the value of listening more and talking less. Various communication barriers were discussed, accompanied by relevant examples.
The fourth module, "Analytical Thinking," addressed the importance of critical thinking, which some graduates had not previously practiced. This module aimed to kickstart their journey towards developing this crucial skill.
"Task Management" was the fifth module, acknowledging the challenges of managing tasks in the digital age. Participants learned how to approach life planning by understanding the fourth dimension—a reference to time management.
The sixth module, "Personal Financial Management," guided participants in planning and achieving short- and long-term financial goals. This module proved helpful in transitioning candidates from economic dependence to independence.
Before concluding the soft skills training, an early module on "Understanding Gender at the Workplace" was introduced. It aimed to raise awareness of gender-based discrimination in the workplace and foster an understanding of how gender stereotypes develop.
The final module, "Effective Job Search," focused on the pre, during, and post-job searching process. Participants gained insights into crafting job-winning resumes, leveraging the knowledge and skills acquired in the previous modules to effectively present their values and capabilities.
According to the Coordinator's explanation, there will be an additional two weeks of professional skill training, and the intensive training program will continue for the community as part of the summer program.

As we kick off the new week, let's take a moment to embrace the wisdom in these powerful words!
The journey to our goals can occasionally appear daunting and unpredictable. But keep in mind, all it takes to move forward is the first brave step. Every small step counts, whether it's for a personal project, a professional change, or self-improvement.
Focus on the current action you can take, rather than getting caught up in the big picture. Break those goals down into doable steps, and begin with something modest.
You get strength, confidence, and a fresh feeling of purpose by taking that first step.
Great things are achieved by embracing the power of each small stride we take. Believe in yourself, trust the process, and let the magic of progress unfold.

Life is a wonderful trip, full of turns and twists that take us outside of our comfort zones. Accept every obstacle in your path since it is only through challenges that we can genuinely develop and progress. Don't be afraid of failure; instead, utilize failure as a stepping stone to success. Keep in mind that when faced with the unknown, we are able to draw into our inner strength and potential. Believe in yourself because you are incredibly strong and resilient.
Continue to strive for greatness because getting started is just as essential as getting to your destination.
Rise beyond our constraints and embrace the amazing opportunities that are at hand!
