Bahir Dar Institute of Technology (BiT) recently Held a dynamic Career Week session designed to equip students and staff with the skills necessary to thrive in today’s competitive labor market. The program emphasized job readiness, personal branding, networking, and an understanding of current labor market trends.
Dr. Amare Tesfaye, Director of the Total Quality Management Office, highlighted the session’s objectives and underscored the importance of maintaining quality standards in academic and innovation-driven activities.
Opening the event, Dr. Amare Kassaw, Deputy Scientific Director for Academic Affairs, reflected on the Institute’s contributions to science, technology, and innovation over the years, noting its continuous efforts to produce graduates who are competitive, employable, and entrepreneurial.
“The goal is not just academic excellence, but also practical competencies that align with industry demands,”
Dr. Amare Kassaw said, acknowledging the role of instructors and researchers like Mr Habtamu Alemayehu, whose dedication has significantly contributed to the Institute’s educational mission.
Organized by the BiT Career Development Center (BiT-CDC) in partnership with Mohas Consult and Mohas Jobs, the Career Week session focused on “Labor Market Information, Job Readiness, Self-Branding, and the Art of Networking.”
The event featured Habtamu Alemayehu, a former BiT-CDC coordinator and workforce development trainer, who guided participants on understanding labor market trends, developing in-demand skills, and effectively preparing for job interviews.
Attendees also learned strategies for building strong personal brands and leveraging networking opportunities to enhance career prospects. Organizers emphasized that such initiatives help bridge the gap between academic training and industry expectations, encouraging active engagement in professional development programs.
Participants described the session as insightful and practical, praising the opportunity to gain real-world career guidance from experienced professionals. The Career Week program continues to strengthen BiT’s commitment to student employability, research, entrepreneurship, and innovation, reinforcing its role as a leader in higher education and workforce preparation.
