🇵🇪 State of emergency declared in Lima amid protests

As protests against the Peruvian government continue, the administration declared a state of declared a state of emergency in the capital Lima and three other regions late on Saturday. The measure will be in force for 30 days and allows military intervention to maintain order. The curbs also cover the regions of Cusco and Puno, as well as the port of Callao adjacent to the capital.

Colombia can account for 44,300 immigrants arriving in Spain in the first quarter of the year, followed by Morocco (23,200) and Venezuela (21,500).

Following are countries such as Peru with 18,800, Honduras with 10,100 and Argentina with 8,600 people.

Foreigners increased by 149,530 people, to 6,227,092, while the population of Spanish nationality decreased by 12,614 people.

🇵🇪 Peru extends state of emergency in south over protests

On June 4, authorities extended the state of emergency in Puno Department through at least Aug. 4. The extension comes amid an increase in protest activity in Puno, with anti-government protesters holding a strike and blocking highways in late May. Authorities have since dismantled roadblocks.

Activist groups plan to renew demonstrations June 14: protests will likely concentrate in the southern departments of Apurimac, Ayacucho, Arequipa, Cusco, and Puno.

Activists also plan to stage a new round of demonstrations in Lima, the capital, beginning July 19.

🇵🇪 Two oil tankers attacked by indigenous protesters in Peru's Amazon

A group of indigenous protesters in Peru's remote Amazon region attacked two oil tankers with gasoline bombs apparently because they are angry about changes by the government to social oil funds.

A dozen crew members from both tankers, one of which contained 40,000 barrels of crude, were also kidnapped by the assailants, according to a statement from Canada-based PetroTal.

PetroTal accused protesters affiliated with indigenous association Aidecobap of blocking an Amazon tributary preventing the passage of the two oil tankers, one of which was empty, while attacking them from canoes with gasoline bombs.
