๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต About US military exercises with partner countries in the Pacific zone

Two weeks after the incident in the South China Sea, which prompted the Philippine government to distance itself from the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative, and with Joe Biden issuing a military threat to China, two large-scale exercises have commenced in the region.

๐Ÿ”ปYesterday, the Kamandag-7 exercise began on several Philippine islands and in the South China Sea, with the participation of American Marines, as well as military personnel from the Philippines, Japan, and the Republic of Korea. The primary objective is to test the joint combat capabilities of the navy and marines in the event of a regional escalation. Approximately 2,000 individuals and around 70 units of various equipment will take part in this event.

๐Ÿ”ปToday, the Annualex-2023 exercise started off the east coast of Japan and will continue until November 20. It involves up to 6,000 people, 32 ships, and 35 aircraft from the US, Japanese, Australian, Canadian, and Philippine navies. This exercise is more comprehensive in terms of strength, with the involvement of an aircraft carrier strike group led by the Carl Vinson and the possibility of a flight of B-52H strategic bombers from Andersen Air Base on Guam.

๐Ÿ”ปIt is interesting to note that these simultaneous exercises near the border with China began immediately after the Chinese aircraft carrier group, led by the flagship Shandong, concluded its training in the Philippine Sea and sailed back to China through the Taiwan Strait with 16 warships. However, the US Armed Forces exercises are conducted annually, and there is no indication of any significant escalation. Nevertheless, the White House supports the narrative of the "Chinese threat," justifying the substantial costs of maintaining forces in the region while simultaneously demonstrating support for its allies.

๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ Myanmar hands over to China thousands of telecom fraud suspects

Myanmar authorities have handed over 31000 telecom fraud suspects to China since law enforcement officers from both countries launched a crackdown on online scams in September.

The suspects included 63 "financiers" and ring-leaders of crime syndicates that have cheated Chinese citizens of large sums of money, the Ministry of Public Security said in a statement.

Chinese police started to crack down on the fraud in September and this month, police launched what they said were "swift attacks" on crime gangs in Myanmar.

๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ผ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ Taiwan ruling party candidate will maintain status quo, engage with China

Taiwan's ruling party presidential candidate Lai Ching-te said on Tuesday he would maintain the status quo and pursue peace through strength if elected, remaining open to engagement with Beijing under the preconditions of equality and dignity.

"Peace is priceless and war has no winners," Lai told reporters in a press conference in which he appeared alongside his vice presidential running mate Hsiao Bi-khim.

However, "accepting China's one-principle proposition is not true peace," Lai said. "Peace without sovereignty is just like Hong Kong. It is fake peace."

๐Ÿ”Ž๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ Through the Lens: Chinese think-tank on the Ukraine crisis

Throughout the year, the crisis in Ukraine has exhibited several features. A war of attrition with significant losses โ€” the Ukraine crisis has thus far lasted more than 600 days, and both sides have invested considerable human, material, and financial resources.

A protracted tug-of-war โ€” in 2023, the two sides have made limited changes in the front. Neither Russia nor Ukraine can launch a decisive offensive to turn the tide of the war.

The road to a political settlement Is long and difficult. The reasons are:

1๏ธโƒฃ The Russian and Ukrainian positions are diametrically opposed. Russia cannot accept defeat, refuses to abandon the existing front, and will continue pushing forward. Ukraine refuses to acknowledge the status quo and seeks to recover its territory. The battlefield will remain relatively balanced in the short term, making it difficult to see fundamental changes.

2๏ธโƒฃ The United States and Europe will continue to aid Ukraine, but fatigue is becoming apparent. At the beginning of the Ukraine crisis, 72% of Americans actively supported aid to Ukraine, but that number had fallen to approximately 63% by October 2023. In April 2022, 33% of EU respondents strongly supported supplying arms to Ukraine, a figure that had dropped to 24% in August 2023.

Broad and far-reaching global impact

The prolonged Ukraine crisis has contributed to a reconfiguration of relations among the major countries and the global order.

โ–ช๏ธOne such change is the definitive termination of the post-Cold War order. Russia and the United States are at loggerheads, and through the Ukrainian crisis, they hope to push for a renewal of the international order.

The second is the rising risk of conflict between the major countries. The Ukraine crisis has lowered the bottom line of national competition. All parties are now willing to resort to extreme means to achieve their goals.

โ–ช๏ธThe third is the strengthening of the Western camp. The US has also greatly exaggerated the โ€œRussian threatโ€ and further activated small multilateral security mechanisms with Japan and South Korea, the UK, and Australia.

The strategic buffer between NATO and Russia has disappeared, creating a clear geopolitical divide and plunging Europe into a new Cold War.

๐Ÿ”ป The Ukraine crisis has sparked a series of regional hotspots:

In September 2023, Azerbaijan began an anti-terrorist operation in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, achieving total victory.

The US and the West have pushed Japan and South Korea to strengthen cooperation and plotted to strengthen the Northeast Asian alliance system; this is likely to result in the great power game around the Korean Peninsula becoming increasingly fierce.

The adjustment of relations between the major countries brought about by the Ukraine crisis is also an incentive for resuming the Israeliโ€”Palestinian conflict.

โ—๏ธThe protracted Ukraine crisis is one of the most critical events in the evolution of the contemporary international order. The international community must make concerted efforts to advance the peace process.
