Applications are open for PhD RA position(s) in Mechanical & #Aerospace Engineering (MAE) at Utah State University.
I am seeking outstanding and self-motivated students to join our composite research group in the areas of high performance, multifunctional composite structures and their manufacturing. Our core research area include
Lightning #Strike Interaction with Composite Structures;
Composites Dynamic Responses under Extreme Environments;
#Multiphysics #Electromagnetic Modeling;
#Multifunctional Composites.
Candidates with strong background or interest in one or more of the following areas are considered.
Advanced Mechanics of Composite Materials;
#Polymer Composite Characterization and Manufacturing;
#Experimental or #Computational Solid Mechanics;
#FE #simulations with #ABAQUS with #user_subroutines, #COMSOL, #ANSYS (Q3D Extractor, Maxwell, HFSS), or other commercial software packages;
Proficiency in programming skills (#Python/#C++/#Fortran) is strong plus.

I am currently looking to hire a postdoc to work on DEM #modeling of #dynamic problems and #impact events. The ideal candidate will have strong programming skills (C++/#Python) and existing experience with open source software and #GUI development. Full details may be found at this link. The announcement lists a start date of September 1, but this is flexible.
I note also that the announcement states a 12-month appointment, which is technically true, but the project is funded for two years. So, assuming satisfactory performance, extension of the appointment to a second year is likely.
