#NEWS | UN Agency Holds Russia Responsible for MH17 Downing in 2014

The United Nations' International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has ruled that Russia was responsible for the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 over eastern Ukraine in July 2014, which killed all 298 passengers and crew, including 196 Dutch and 38 Australian citizens. The Boeing 777, en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, was struck by a Russian-made BUK surface-to-air missile in a conflict zone controlled by pro-Russian separatists.

Australia and the Netherlands, who launched the case in 2022, welcomed the historic ruling, with the ICAO stating Russia violated international air law. Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp called it a step toward "truth and justice," while Australia’s Foreign Minister Penny Wong urged swift reparations. Russia denies involvement, despite a 2022 Dutch court convicting three men in absentia for their roles. The ICAO will now consider reparations.

According to him, the goal of the west in the "conflict in Ukraine" is to weaken Russia and the "Russian world" (lol), but that inevitably Russia will "come out of this war even bigger", as Russia "already took 20% of Ukrainian territory".

He noted that Erdogan was able to create a platform for dialogue back in 2022, but the "west forced Ukraine to disagree" and and then give up on negotiations.
