In 2026, the Russian Ministry of Defense planned to recruit 409,000 contract soldiers. Depending on the period, the monthly target is 33,500-34,600 new soldiers.
However, instead of the expected 1,100-1,150 contracts per day, the average daily number of contract signings for the first three months of 2026 was just over 940. It's important to remember that the number of contract signings does not equal the number of new arrivals.
Roughly speaking, if the trend continues, Russia could lose 16%, or more than 65,000 personnel. For comparison, in March alone, Russia lost 31,960 service members killed, injured, wounded, and captured.

This is why only the republics where people have an East Asian appearance appear to show elevated participation, while other republics such as Adyghea and Ingushetia are far below the national average.
