Many Europeans spent centuries living among and working for the betterment of all mankind and the good folk as well as hunting the rathole factions. There are actually many accounts of people whom where of a good heart being welcomed among the other societies and their combined efforts to do something about “the things that go bump in the dark” so the few families that sided with the abominations had to hide this fact as well as they had to maintain a low profile because hunting humans out in the open would get towns folk along with many of the groups we are now taught to think of as “knights in shining armor hunting dragons” when the fact is many of the dragons as well a gnomes and fairy folk worked with mankind pretty regularly up until many so called kings and the church wanted to seek power over people so the other society’s where labeled as “demonic creatures” so only a select few retained their kinship.

Where as in North & South American societies most people regarded all other “humanoid species” as living gods regardless if they where good or evil so many of the not so good ones where never pressured or hunted down because the natives tended to take the “don’t talk about it and avoid going looking for those that where taken” because they never had the courage to see if “the thing going bump in the dark” could be killed.
There where a few tribes including those that took part in the Lovelock cave incident that actually did stand up for themselves. However many that did where then killed by other tribes who believed that they where targeting their god.
Can use many of the South American “gods” as an example that many demanded human sacrifices or offerings & many of the depictions of them are what we would now call monsters.

Then with North America we can use the example that many regions are Extremely old, such as The Appalachian mountains that have not been subject to many of the same geological changes that most of the world has gone through and have remained basically the same environment condition for a few hundred million years. So even as human societies grew and fell many of the said mountain and valleys remained isolated and untouched. To the point that we think that even during the super continent of Pangaea time line, many of these mountain ranges already existed so many of the species we now recognize as “monsters” remained in pockets from a time forgotten by most.

In fact this also plays into the
“The uncanny valley hypothesis, that predicts that an entity appearing almost human will risk eliciting eerie feelings in viewers. Because we have genetic memory of something that looks like us but is not us & was most likely harmful.

Similarly how spiders and snakes movements cause a instinctual want to avoid even among children with no knowledge or experience with snakes or spiders, but is for lack of a better term programed into genetic memory to avoid. Because millions have died and or been harmed by the two species.
