A 46-year-old construction worker was killed & 7 others were rushed to seek medical attention last night following the sudden collapse of a building under construction along the East Coast of Demerara.

The tragedy occurred at a construction site in Atlantic Gardens, where a structure gave way without warning.

Information reaching this publication indicates that 8 men were on-site and working at the time of the disaster. As the structure failed, it crashed into the yard of a nearby residence, sending shockwaves through the quiet neighbourhood and narrowly missing adjacent homes.

Up to press time, no official statement had been released by the owners of the property regarding the cause of the structural failure.

Gas leak sparked a huge blaze in the Hattar Industrial Estate, resulting in the death of a woman and a child, while 4 others were injured.

According to initial reports, the fire erupted after a leakage in the main gas pipeline, which quickly escalated into a massive inferno.

The explosion-like sound of the fire caused panic among nearby residents.

Rescue teams, police, the DPO, the Deputy Commissioner, and other officials immediately reached the site and launched rescue and firefighting operations.

The DPO Haripur said the incident occurred due to a gas pipeline fire that intensified rapidly.
