REPORT: Drug-laced paper that was smuggled in through books and legal documents has killed multiple inmates in a Chicago jail.
Cook County Correctional Facility found Thomas Diskin, 57, deceased, lying around his cell’s toilet in January 2023, with no signs of foul play, only finding shreds of paper with signatures on them.
A Virginia lab tested the paper and found the strips were soaked in a synthetic cannabinoid called Pinaca, according to the New York Post.
Shortly after, 2 more inmates were found dead with very similar circumstances.
According to the Post, a 12x12 piece of paper could be worth up to $10,000.
Multiple staffers were reportedly arrested for smuggling it to inmates.
"And how do you keep it out of schools, because it’s on pieces of paper? It’s terrifying. It would be worse than the fentanyl in the street," said Cook County Sheriff’s Office chief of staff Brad Curry.
So far in 2026, 2 inmates have died overdosing on the drug.
