CAMERON PARISH, Louisiana
A gooey, sandy, rubbery substance is washing up on Cameron Parish beaches, and officials have not identified its source.
The discovery comes weeks after a 31,000-gallon oil spill near Port Fourchon.
Philip Dyson, a lifelong fisherman, said he has not seen this volume of tar-like clumps on the beaches in years. “Not since the BP oil spill,” Dyson said.
The substance is rubbery and stretches when pulled apart. It also resembles tar.
The EPA has deferred to the U.S. Coast Guard, which has not offered any theories about the substance’s origin.
Law firms with the Louisiana Coastal Claims Coalition have begun investigating. The firm said concerned fishermen from Cameron reached out to them. They are surveying the area and testing samples.

Astronomers are still searching for answers behind this year’s unusual wave of loud & fiery meteor sightings.
Now, a new analysis published by the AMS on Wed has confirmed just how much of a statistical outlier this 2026 barrage has been.
“After years of stable baseline activity, something appears to have shifted,” according to AMS researcher Mike Hankey, who manages the society’s fireball reporting tools. “The signal is consistent across multiple metrics.”
According to those metrics—including total witness figures, the number of cases involving sonic booms, & the duration of the sightings—Hankey said, “Fireball activity has increased.”
“Almost half of all March 2026 events with 10+ reports were seen by 50 or more people,” according to Hankey. “Events that would normally draw 25 [to] 49 witnesses instead drew 50, 100, or even 200+ witnesses. The distribution didn’t broaden—it shifted upward.”

Over one million Americans have been warned to avoid outdoor activity & shut their windows as the air quality near the US southern border reaches dangerous levels.
The US EPA issued a widespread alert on Friday in Texas & New Mexico. The air over 2 massive swaths of the South, engulfing approx 1.3million people, was declared 'unhealthy' or 'hazardous' to breathe.
The hazardous clouds cover large cities in Texas, including El Paso, Lubbock, Midland & Odessa. In New Mexico, major communities including Hobbs, Carlsbad & Deming are also in the danger zones, according to the EPA's real-time data.
At one point on Friday, IQAir stations in Odessa reported that PM2.5 levels were over 18 times higher than the WHO recommended safe limits.
However, by 2pm ET, an even more dangerous plume of polluted air had formed to the west of this cloud, stretching roughly 200 mi across Texas & New Mexico's border with Mexico.
