MeteorSighting: Eyewitnesses in Texas observed a bright fireball today, March 21, at 4:40 p.m. CDT. Current data indicates that the meteor became visible at 49 miles above Stagecoach, northwest of Houston. It moved southeast at 35,000 mph, breaking apart 29 miles above Bammel, just west of Cypress Station. The fragmentation of the meteor - which weighed about a ton with a diameter of 3 feet - created a pressure wave that caused booms heard by some in the area. Doppler weather radar also showed meteorites produced between Willowbrook and Northgate Crossing.

HARRIS CO., Texas
KPRC2 viewers called the station around 4:45 pm Saturday, reporting a loud sonic boom as a meteor flew overhead!
Hundreds of sky watchers from social media to the American Meteor Society reported the shooting star and boom.
Waller Co Judge Trey Duhon posted a loud explosion on Facebook:
β .. Apparently a meteor exploded earlier today somewhere near or over our County. I heard it inside the house and the house shook from it .."
The loud boom was caused by the meteor disintegrating. NASA reports it unleashed 26 tons of TNT, creating a pressure wave that was heard and felt at ground level.
GOES East 19 Satellite detecting the meteor through its lightning detector- showing up as a green flash at 4:40 PM on March 21st.

Cuba's power grid collapsed Saturday leaving the country without electricity for a third time in March as the communist government battles with a decaying infrastructure and a U.S.-imposed oil blockade.
The Cuban Electric Union, which reports to the Ministry of Energy and Mines, announced a total blackout across the island without initially giving a cause for the outage.
The union later said the blackout was caused by an unexpected failure of a generating unit at the Nuevitas thermoelectric plant in CamagΓΌey province.
Authorities said they were working to restore power.
The last nationwide blackout occurred on Monday. Saturday's outage was the second in the past week and the third in March.
