LEESBURG, Virginia

A loud noise with a flash of light was heard in Leesburg, Virginia, on Friday night.

Reports came in around 10:50 p.m. from central Leesburg.

Laura Rinehart, a public information officer with Loudoun Co Fire and Rescue, confirmed with WTOP that it was not a gas explosion. She added that officials with police, the fire department and Dominion Energy went to the scene and saw no smoke or flames.

A spokesperson with Dominion Energy also told WTOP that no reports were made by the company’s Regional Operations Center’s servicemen.

It is currently unclear what caused the loud noise. Emergency personnel are continuing to investigate.

Multiple listeners reported that the sound shook their homes or their heard a loud “whooshing” sound. The flash of light was visible as far as Sterling, Purcellville and Poolesville, Maryland.

SAN FRANCISCO, California

An unplanned power outage on Friday impacted multiple San Francisco neighborhoods.

The outage was sparked by an electrical equipment failure in an underground vault, according to PG&E. The vault is located at 18th and Guerrero St in the Mission district.

PG&E said crews late Friday were patrolling impacted areas and working to restore service.

Nearly 14,000 customers were impacted by the outage.

As of 6:30 p.m., power was restored to nearly all San Francisco customers impacted by the outage, PG&E said.

WEBB CO., Texas

A natural gas pipeline ruptured and exploded on Hwy 255, prompting a response from Webb Co FD crews.

The Webb Co FD reported the incident just before 11 a.m. on March 20. Fire units were en route to another call when they responded to the scene.

No injuries have been reported.

At just after 12 p.m., Webb County Fire Chief Ramiro Elizondo Jr. reported that 2 pipelines from Howard Energy and Lewis Energy Group had ruptured.

He noted that the valves had been shut off and the remaining natural gas had burned off following the rupture. Crews are now working to extinguish the hot spots caused by the explosion.

CHESTERFIELD CO., Virginia

Multiple neighbors in Chesterfield are reporting they felt a shake on Friday evening. Though the USGS has not confirmed it was an earthquake, CBS 6 Meteorologist Julie Watkins said the event registered on some local seismographs.

"We also had a coworker that reported on, not only the ground shaking, but a loud boom, and that house kind of rocking back and forth. That is typical behavior for an earthquake," Watkins said.

CBS 6 asked our FB followers if they felt it. Dozens of neighbors in Chesterfield and South Richmond said that they did.

"Yes. Loud boom and then house shook. Off Beach Rd near Pocahontas State Park," Whitney Rogers wrote.

"Yes, in the Highlands," wrote Sandi Luckenbill Gattoline. "Definite strong shake lasting a few seconds."

"Near Manchester High School!!! Loud noise and the house shook," wrote AJ CasTell.
