SAGINAW, Michigan

Thousands of Consumers Energy customers lost power for more than an hour in the Saginaw area Friday.

The company's outage map showed more than 15,600 homes and businesses lost power around 11:35 a.m. The outage area stretched from the M-46 corridor in Buena Vista north to the Freeland area.

Consumers Energy spokesman Brian Wheeler said power was restored around 12:45 p.m.

The outage was caused by an unspecified equipment failure inside an electric substation on Center Road.
